We’re in DC, on a DC-centric website (hence the name, DCUM). The OP asked about DC metro private schools. Please post on NYCUM (oops, that doesn’t exist), or stay on topic. Otherwise, move along.

If you can’t see the relevance, then you may be a Neanderthal.

Unless posters have middle school kids in all three jurisdictions at this time, then your NYC comment is indeed irrelevant.

If someone wants to know about Trinity vs Dalton vs Horace Mann that’s the question they’ll ask. Then you can jump in! 🤺

STA

I don’t see how this is possible, unless they only take half as many spots than the co-eds for 9th.

Thank you. There is always that one person who feels the need to add this.

+100. Always!
We don’t care about what NYC/LA private schools are doing. We are on DCUM discussing issues relevant to DC.

If this is true, you wouldn't know all of the information you posted. Just click the 'quote' button next time you want to respond.

Perception is reality and Sidwell has harnessed that perception. It will very hard to shift that perception no matter how many times someone says ‘every girl I know got into sidwell but they didn’t get into NCS’ and ‘every boy I know got into Sidwell but the same can’t be said for STA.’

Long time K-8 teacher here. In my observation the toughest admits from year to year have been Maret and Sidwell. GDS is also up there, but not generally as hard as the other two (except for last year's debacle).

Thank you for actual information!

Well, Sidwell does accept more for 9th. STA has a smaller entry class. STA pulls from more politically moderate families who don't feel welcome at Sidwell or GDS. Sidwell has built a reputation in recent years for a lot of administrative turbulence, terrible CCO and bad teachers who are sloppy and disorganized and blame the students for not getting their inscrutable lectures. A lot more of those than at STA which also has a few.
GDS even many progressive families have given up on.

PP, you're an idiot. This isn't actual information unless you know which K-8 this teacher is from. Sample size of one K-8 is not information. It's a limited perspective.

What have you observed about NCS and STA?

There are many in the college acceptance thread who would say that it's a total crapshoot for the unhooked non-athletes.

...from any of the top 5 privates.

Each school will seem to have some good or some bad years, but that is mostly about legacy or other hooks.

DP and it's a piece of the puzzle if not the whole puzzle. There are some good feeder K-8s here, feeding to different HSs.
