The Sidwell admits dodged a bullet! Especially, if they want to play football and avoid being hazed. And also if they like girls.

Huh?! So are you suggesting that football players who like girls should instead go to an all boys school? I am not trolling...I am just genuinely not following your logic here and am curious.

I think Sidwell's football program is not long for the world.

I don’t think there’s a huge interest in brain damage

LOL, the only GDS drama is coming from GDS boosters like you. It's so transparent it's starting to look desperate and sad....

Reading comprehension isn't your strength, babe. Your repetitive posts are looking desperate and sad. Sorry for your loss.

Sidwell kids have been leaving in droves because of the lack of certain sports programs. You don’t know any athletes at Sidwell or have not been paying attention the last few years.

There a few Sidwell kids now at STA and all have remarked how much better the STA academics are (and harder)…I think they (and their parents) were all a bit shocked.

Lol—no! Every girl I know who was admitted to Sidwell was also admitted to NCS (without exception). The reverse wasn’t true. As a matter of fact, only about 1/4 of the NCS admits were also admitted to Sidwell.

I disagree. NCS only admits about 10-15 ninth graders. NCS is known for having lots of applicants every year so 10-15 is definitely not a lot. NCS also requires applicants to submit standardized testing scores (ISEE, SSAT) which only makes getting in harder considering the difficulty of these tests.

EDIT: first paragraph of the last message posted on here wasn’t mine, I’m just new to DCUM and not sure how to make replies. Second paragraph is my own.

I also think that what separates NCS and Sidwell is that for the past few years Sidwell has been recruiting athletes while NCS is more focused on academics. This is not to say that Sidwell admits are less academically rounded than NCS admits, just that admissions at the schools aren’t really comparable. Just my opinion. If anyone would like to share something different, I’m happy to listen.

“Leaving in droves” to attend STA? For sports?!? Thanks for the laugh! 😂

You can disagree, but I’m referring to my personal experience. I know about 3 out of 12 girls, over the last 5 years, who were admitted to both NCS and Sidwell. The other 9 girls were admitted to NCS, but not Sidwell.

There are only a handful of 9th grade athletic recruits at Sidwell, each year (usually no more than 5-6 students). Sidwell is as focused, if not more, on academics than NCS. College admissions results, for non-athletes, are proof of that fact.

There are many in the college acceptance thread who would say that it's a total crapshoot for the unhooked non-athletes.

As no one here has the numbers we will never actually know but the perception is always that it’s Sidwell and that hasn’t changed in 30 years and is unlikely to change anytime soon without the actual data.

Man I love DC. There are some real characters in our town.

True…and it depends on what metric/data you’re using to demonstrate superiority. Some of this is of course public perception (high profile political families, famous alumni, etc.). It’s a self-perpetuating image that *might* not be entirely based on quantifiable data. Let’s not forget that like most colleges, some departments are better than others so it really depends on fit for particular a student.
