Private & Independent Schools
| Curious if anyone has any info on what school has the most 9th applications for the spots available. Is it Sidwell with its academic reputation or a smaller school like Maret? Or |
| Sidwell hands down |
| Right now, it might be GDS thanks to the over-enrollment debacle with the ANC. They try to admit students with a somewhat diverse array of academic backgrounds, but given the resulting number of applications and the dearth of available spots, it’s a tough places to get admitted if you’re unhooked. |
STA |
| Maret given the small class sizes. And Maret seems to be more random too. |
| None of the local DC area schools are that tough compared to elite boarding schools or NYC/LA schools. |
Coming from DC boarding schools are easier than STA, NCS, Sidwell, and GDS. |
STA followed by NCS, Maret, GDS, and Sidwell |
No, not the top ones. |
We’re in DC, on a DC-centric website (hence the name, DCUM). The OP asked about DC metro private schools. Please post on NYCUM (oops, that doesn’t exist), or stay on topic. Otherwise, move along. |
Lol—no! Every girl I know who was admitted to Sidwell was also admitted to NCS (without exception). The reverse wasn’t true. As a matter of fact, only about 1/4 of the NCS admits were also admitted to Sidwell. |

All of the "better" Schools in metro DC - maybe top 5-6 schools depending how one counts - have highly competitive admissions for 9th. There is no meaningful difference in competitiveness of admissions among that set of schools, although "advocates" for one school or another will allege otherwise on DCUM.
GDS has had a transitory (very temporary) and odd issue with being overenrolled relative to the enrollment cap it preciously had agreed with the DC powers that be. |
If you can’t see the relevance, then you may be a Neanderthal. |
How so? |
