"Classroom management" skills

You can have amazing classroom management and still need GoGuardian. The two arent mutually exclusive, but I'm sure since you attended school at some point in your life, you consider yourself an expert on school.

Hint: you're not.

Just telling you what MCPS said. It sounds like they'll even offer training!

I’m a middle school teacher and I literally have to freeze screens constantly due to students playing games and writing emails to their friends. If this is true, then most of my assignments moving forward will be on paper.

+100. If we don't have GoGuardian, get rid of the Chromebooks. Kids are ungovernable on their devices without GoGuardian. They have no impulse control and the internet has so many opportunities for distraction.

Per usual, it’s people who don’t spend any time in the buildings making all of the decisions. Remind is absolutely worthless. GoGuardian is absolutely a necessity, so of course they went with Remind. It’s really time to find a new profession or at the least, a new district. They can put out all the surveys they want, they’ll never use any of the actual data from teachers doing the real work.

While I would expect Chromebooks to be difficult to manage in the classroom without something like GoGuardian, the limited usage by teachers suggests otherwise.

So you’re going to believe the board stating “limited use” over teachers telling you that it’s been actually very much being used by most teachers in most schools? You’re the problem.

Those aren't the options. There's a clear public statement, which could be confirmed through a records request, that clsims to cover all teachers at all schools in the district. And on the other side, one or more anonymous posters who may or may not actually be teachers. And even if they are, there's no reason to think their usage reflects overall usage within MCPS.

Don't get me wrong, MCPS admin has shown they're absolutely willing to lie. There just isn't anything credible refuting what they're saying.

There is-they simply don't want to pay for it. Not too hard.

Not saying MCPS doesn't have a reason to lie. But there's no reason to trust anonymous posters on dcum. Even if those posters aren't lying, they have no way of knowing what the rest of teachers are doing within MCPS.

SpEd para - I'd hate to see goguardian go away. We use it in the classes I'm in.

Ugh, as a parent I HATE Remind. Much rather just get emails with info from teachers and admin.

Ha! They have no money to buy paper or toner for the copiers

She showed up after BOE called for her resignation? Wow

Packed the audience with her supporters. Of course she showed up.
She had people heckling the BOE members during the meeting.

Good to see that she’s confirming her reputation for catty backbiting behavior.

They should at least keep GoGuardian for the MS teachers -- that seems to be where it is most used/needed.

I get the sense from my HS students that the MCPS controls on the chrome books make them basically unusable for higher level classes, so most of the kids just buy laptops. Mine used her earnings from her summer job to get a decent laptop as she said she couldn't do her math/science/comp sci work on the school chromebooks.

Remind is a PITA and a waste of money.

I hope there are school specific licenses available for GoGuardian. MS needs it for sure - otherwise I’m going back to paper.

Source?

MCPS is big enough to negotiate; GoGuardian would listen.

My source is the BOE meeting from yesterday. I hope you’re right. Personally, I think it’s a huge mistake to get rid of goguardian.

This is an area where MCEA could theoretically help draw attention and get a change made. What's being discussed this week is just the recommended budget; it is not finalized until May/June I believe.

Did the question of school specific licenses come up yesterday at the meeting?

Good question and I don’t recall that question coming up. They spoke about the school system as a whole.
