I thought so too but they said few teachers were using it, so I can understood why it was viewed as a waste of money.

I don't think it's useless, but it is useless since MCPS isn't forcing everyone to use it communicate so we still have a fragmented communications ecosystem, which is going to result in low utilization and eventually get chopped for that reason.

Wait, is it confirmed that they’re getting rid of GoGuardian?

Seemed pretty set based on the meeting.

And what is the total we taxpayers have forked out for her legal?????

Allowing students to use Chromebooks without GoGuardian is actual insanity. I’m a middle school teacher and I literally have to freeze screens constantly due to students playing games and writing emails to their friends. If this is true, then most of my assignments moving forward will be on paper.

+100. If we don't have GoGuardian, get rid of the Chromebooks. Kids are ungovernable on their devices without GoGuardian. They have no impulse control and the internet has so many opportunities for distraction.

+1. Why did they say getting rid of it? Something else in place. No more chrookbooks?

Or because they can't afford it as the money is being used to pay legal?

A) I don’t think this is true,
B) Even if it is, there were folks here on DCUM advocating for exactly this last week for ES kids.

People here complain regardless of what they do.

Exactly. They can’t make everyone happy so that just have to make the best decisions. For me it would be a extra chargers that can be passed out for home use in Winter for Code Purple planning.

Oh wow. This is some bs. I use it during quizzes and assessments. We also use it as a work around when mcps blocks their own curriculum! We can share things in the platform. I guess because they got rid of most assessments….. we don’t need to monitor them! It is also a way for kids to talk with us like they did over zoom when working independently. Ugh!!! I had to fight just to get .50 notebooks for my kids this year. No money for any more supplies next semester. I am really am sick of mcps for making my job harder and harder every year.

They said they’re getting rid of it because only 3,000 out of 14,000 teachers are using it. That’s a lot of money wasted on a license that only 21% of teachers are using.
