April 22 is the first make up day. January 29 is needed due to end of the term grading and S2 planning.

They've had three days to catch up on grading.

It’s not just about end of the marking period grading. Finalizing grades through Synergy is VERY time consuming. It’s not a simple, one-step click a button and you’re done. There are many steps to go through for each class/section taught. At the high school level, there are many students who turn in late work and since all work needs to be accepted, this is yet one more thing that has to be done in the final hours.

End of the quarter isn’t over yet. We all are going to scramble to finalize Q2 assignments, assessments, grades, and complete reports. But thanks for your concern ensuring student success!!!!!

There's what less than two weeks?

MCPS will do this BS thing of extending the MP by a day and then pretending teachers had extra time to grade.

Ridiculous, right? They can’t even telework?

They have plenty. Some schools didn't send them home. This is absurd.

They don't have a way to send chromebooks home for elementary kids. It was pretty clear they weren't going to be able to do this.

Now? One week. What is your point? Do you want us to educate your children or no? Because according to you, it seems we should have wrapped up the entire quarter by now. So then we just sit around and look at each other the last week? Watch a movie? I thought DCUM only wants to see 100% productivity at school. Which is it? Should we just call Q2 a day then?? Lots of stuff to wrap up for every teacher I know at least.

No virtual. Teachers didn’t want virtual. Code red

Do not blame this on teachers. We spent all morning preparing for virtual, fully expecting to go virtual. This is on MCPS. Principals should be going to the news after that email of lies from Hull.

That's absurd. Many of the teachers at my elementary school would greatly prefer virtual over making up days. My school's core team has had plans for virtual learning for the past few weeks. Food services emailed us and directed us to send home lunches with the kids today. Yesterday school admin were sharing plans with one another anticipating virtual for Friday. It was senior leadership at central that couldn't reach a consensus this morning.

How was your school going to handle chromebooks? They're all on carts at our school.

That only works if students have already submitted the work. There’s one more week left in the marking period. At minimum, two more assignments per student at my school x 160 students. How do I go back in time to grade what I haven’t yet received?

Sorry, my kid is one of those that has missing assignments that you still have to grade. On top of the two more assignments per kid.

Teachers did not have any say in whether it would be virtual or not.

This.

However, DCUM was very vocal that it didn’t want virtual, virtual was a waste of time, virtual was worse than closed…

A correct assessment. But the central office shouldn't have wasted everyone's time suggesting otherwise.

To all the parents saying teachers don’t need the 29th… great. Have your kids who have missing assignments actually work on them tomorrow and submit them immediately. Then write to to the board and McKnight.

Ours are also stored on carts in the classroom. Each student's Chromebook is labeled. We were just going to put the Chromebook in the students' backpacks and send them home without the charger. Chromebooks will hold a charge for at least 8 hours so long as the student doesn't spend all night playing on it before a virtual learning day.

How do they not have away? They should have extra chargers or release them from the carts. They had all the supplies back from covid.

It's not that teachers didn't want virtual, the school system wasn't prepared for virtual.

Thats my plan but I don't think any are missing as we monitor it regularly.
