So why don’t you organize something? Not a formal game, but something where they can play. If at FCPS can’t do it for you, then you take some initiative and do it. Otherwise you’re just complaining. |
Go organize a basketball game at an outdoor court covered in snow? |
| UGH. Now our league has to reorganize picture day as well. Huge hassle. And still trying to reschedule games from the last round of cancellations. |
Wasn’t someone saying that there was “no snow” in Fairfax? Maybe an indoor court? |
It would be “just winter” if it snowed all night and tomorrow AM and it turned out then that the buildings could not be safely opened. It is a decision not to spend $ clearing lots and paths instead. And that sucks. |
You didn’t deny it… enjoy your weekend annoying people on here. |
|
Stop complaining. It’s not like you pay taxes or anything. Why would you expect lazy, overpaid bureaucrats to actually work and have schools open?? You’re so entitled.
Covid showed their true colors — just looking for ANY excuse to close schools and sit home. They they justify it based on “safety.” |
What bureaucrats would be at school on Saturday? The only people working will be custodians cleaning the outsides getting ready fir Sunday’s activities. |
Most residents couldn’t care less. |
It’s the parents who whine to close schools for 2 inches of snow, then cry that their kid can’t play Saturday sports that get on my last nerve. |
| I wonder how northern states function. If all the bed wetters in FCPS lived up there, those states would be closed all damn winter! |
No, I never want schools closed because they close enough. They're a joke of an institution. If I want to build a snowman, I can keep my kid out. |
Northern states have the infrastructure and funding to keep their roads and schools operational in bad weather. We don't get enough weather to invest in either the equipment or the people with experience and expertise in managing a response. |
Wow, it only took 4 pages for someone to ask this stupid (and obvious) question. |
| The road clearing infrastructure is better up north and they’re more skilled at snow removal - no plowing snow into the center turn lane which I’ve definitely seen in the past here. However, plowing of parking lots and shoveling/salting of sidewalks can still leave something to be desired, even in a place that gets a lot of snow. Also there’s a lot less risk tolerance than there was in the 80s and 90s when we were growing up and yes, their schools close or delay more often as well. But no, in Ohio/Michigan/etc. they would not be cancelling prime HS basketball games for this amount of snow a whole day in advance. Condition of the parking lots be dammed. lol. |
