Why do they need to go anywhere?

Howard county just announced closure for tomorrow

Oh but that’s because they can’t have a delayed opening due to previous scheduling of early release.

Totally sissyfication of America. We are making our children weak.

lol I grew up in Canada. Never had a snow day, temps were often -30 with a lot of snow. What kind of buses do we have here in MCPS that they won't start at 21F?

I went to high school in Canada! We plugged in our cars at night because they had little heaters on the engine so they'd start in the morning. Everyone's car had a little plug hanging out of the hood. I imagine the school buses had them too.

Exactly, people and schools are prepared. We rarely get snow so most aren’t prepared and those heaters are special order only now and not done in this are.

It would be a massive waste of resources to be that "prepared" for such rare events in MoCo.

Both my kids slipped and fell on black ice in my own driveway this evening. Thankfully there were no injuries, only some sore bums.

The black ice issue is a big one for kids walking to school. There's no easy one size fits all answer for the entire county, unfortunately. Better to take the conservative route than to risk injuries, not to mention potential accidents caused by inexperienced teenage drivers going to high school in the early AM.

Hoping for a closure looking at temps and hypothermia alerts

+1 fine black ice is a concern etc. I'm okay with the delay.

But LOL re buses. What do they do in Boston, Chicago, upper Midwest, Canada etc. Modern vehicles should be running fine!

Hypothermia?!? Much of the country gets colder than this routinely.

I hope they move to a cancellation but messaging doesn't say they'll consider it

They do not. Starting buses tomorrow will be an issue.

There’s no requirement for them to give advance notice of a possible conversion from delayed opening to full closure. They can just do it tomorrow morning.
