Maybe you’re too young and didn’t have any old relatives that made jokes about how someone would try to buy you for 3 camels if you went to the Middle East. That used to be a common racist joke about the Middle East—that they liked to buy women.

Oh, good point. OP sent an offensive photo about a "woman on display in a shop" . OP and the date are a good match.

Hot woman on a chair: Priceless!

It’s me sitting in the chair, very appropriately dressed for the area.
Is it offensive (implying I was prostituting myself)?

How this a question? I mean, literally. He said something to you in private. Why are you asking other people to tell you whether it's offensive? Did it offend you?

Are you asking if you should be offended by things that do not offend you? The answer is no. You should not be offended by things that don't offend you.

Are you asking if you should not be offended by things that offend you? Probably. Being less offended is an aspect of high self-esteem and confidence. But everyone has their insecurities so it's OK to ask people to avoid giving needless offense.

There's nothing wrong with the OP asking for a gut check. It is a strange and not particularly funny comment.

I take it as an attempt at banter and a compliment, and more along the lines of implying Middle Eastern culture is backwards than OP being a prostitute.

I'm sorry but hardly anyone knows this "common racist joke". It might be a huge offense in your mind and something that never crossed other person's mind (or they never heard of it).

OP are you OP from this thread?

It is in fact common in the South. I’m the previous poster (Arab). People there joke about Arabs seeking to “buy” white women.

Eww, so creepy + inappropriate.

Unless of course if the guy IS cute!

Then…Congrats‼️👍🏽

So do they buy women or do the dowry thing still or not?

Then it’s a double innuendo joke. Well done.
