Is this an offensive joke ?

Anonymous
Shared my photo in a souvenir store on travel to a Middle East country with a date. He asked what I bought and then texted a few hrs later -“how much were they asking for the hot woman in the chair ?”
It’s me sitting in the chair, very appropriately dressed for the area.
Is it offensive (implying I was prostituting myself)?

not offensive.

It's pretty awkward, or gauche, but it sounds like a sad attempt at a complement.

A little risqué, but not offensive unless you're easily offended by anything risqué.

Thank you - what do I respond ? I’m puzzled it’s such a weird sentence from him, the person is not a weirdo at all

Not offensive IMO. Agree with PP that it was meant as a compliment.

“Priceless”

He called you hot, does that offend you?

Stupid, not funny but the harpies of DCUM get offended by anything.

No he wasn’t implying you were prostituting yourself, what a strange thought!

You literally were talking to him about things you bought in the store. He was saying you were the best thing there. A cheesy compliment but not offensive.

He was not implying you were prostitution yourself. It was a compliment. Seriously , is English your second language?

Am I the only one that thinks it’s offensive to Middle Eastern people? Maybe you’re too young and didn’t have any old relatives that made jokes about how someone would try to buy you for 3 camels if you went to the Middle East. That used to be a common racist joke about the Middle East—that they liked to buy women.

No not offensive. Unless it’s a pattern of jokes about buying women or your affection.

Otherwise it’s a cute pic of you in the big bazaar market and he’s asked how much for the cutie.

This is a really old joke OP

We’ve all heard it when we’ve shared photos from the Turkish spice market or mexican pottery market or textile markets in Delhi.

Move on.
