I graduated with a 3.65 GPA and found it more than respectable. Don’t be condescending, the student did great. |
Mine got a 2.7. His required math class and economics were the reasons for the low grades. He’s terrible at math. He got good grades in the classes involving writing which is his strength. No more math classes so he should do better from now on. |
This brag isn't even humble. You're bragging. Just own it. |
Why are folks surprised to see kids with high marks Freshman year?? It’s not like everyone forgets how to study or the reason for college the moment parents leave. |
My DD has a very challenging STEM major at a top 30 school, and came in at a 2.7.
She is very disappointed, but I am proud of her. I don't know if she'll stay in her major. She is tempted to switch to an easier major, for GPA purposes. |
I had a 1.5, switched once I got to a 2.0 from engineering to business and did well. It is not the end of the world and can be turned around. |
DC had a 3.25 after their first semester, STEM major. Not great not a tragedy.
Kid knows what they want and that they needed to work differently to get the gpa higher. After the summer stood at 3.44. Baby steps. There was no curving. You got what you got and tons of ACE quizzes (4 questions, you either an A, C or E). |
The ACE quizzes were a stable of my kid's honors pre-calc class in high school. This was at a private where out of 15 kids there were probably 2 A's earned mostly because of those darn quizzes. There was a quiz given every class period. |
Frequent quizzes promote better attendance and recall. Those profs know what they’re doing. |
most college freshman don't get meaningful internships. The transition is hard, if your kid is happy, making friends and has a 3.6 you should be thrilled. Maybe you need to reset your expectations. |
Freshman don't need to look for internships. Back off, he's doing great! College is not high school. 4.0s are rare, as they should be. He needs to stretch and try some classes he won't ace or what's the point of an education? |
Why does she think a high GPA, that will last for a year after graduation (if the college even gives on -- some schools do not for this very reason), is more important than pursuing a career that she is interested in doing for the rest of her life? Seems short sighted. |
np.. hard to inflate grades as a CS major, though. They don't allow test retakes. 4.0 CS major at UMD (went in with 58 credits so already taking 2nd year courses). Also skipped several Monday morning classes. I think you don't realize that there are several former MCPS magnet students at UMD, and they are really smart kids. (PS. jealous doesn't look good on anyone) |
To get perfect grades so the parents can brag to online strangers, of course! |
I mean.. it's online and anonymous. So, who cares? Don't read the thread if you don't care. |
