What is your college freshman’s first semester GPA?

3.6 is perfect in my eyes, can still go up but won’t kill him for years trying to catch up.

I am worried it will go down from here, the first year are mostly easier introductory courses that they have taken in HS.

I think 3.6 sounds respectable for first year, transition, etc. But only you know your DC and if this represents a good effort or they are coasting.

The A students work for the B students, the C students run the businesses, and the D students dedicate the buildings.

OMG can we STOP with this phrase? To OP your students GPA is excellent for first semester freshman year. But you already knew that. It sounds like they are off to a great start.

4.0 at UMD. Sure only one class in his major, but 3 A+ and 2 A's. Had no idea A+ was a "thing". Absolutely shocked.

It sounds like UMD practices grade inflation or isn't academically rigorous. I'm sure your kid is smart and all, but I doubt the majority of his grades would be A+'s at a school like Bucknell.

PP, perhaps you're correct. Like I mentioned, had no idea A+ was actually a grade.

If you did you job right, let them learn their lessons and find solutions. Time for hovering is over. They are adults.

DS 3.95 Purdue engineering. He works hard, doesn’t miss class, and isn’t on screens all day. He only had a 3.7 uw at strong FCPS high school.

I have a junior, and have honestly never asked.
