Missionaries in foreign countries are crass

They’re the worst. When my daughter was a Peace Corps volunteer in Central America they drove her bat shit. They’d swoop in, build a church, and that’s it. They didn’t bother building schools or housing or anything else. They suck.

A mosque opening is different than prosteylzing. Rarely do you see American Muslims traving abroad to convert nonbelievers to the 'correct' relgion.

Colonizing and religious conversion are almost entirely white western constructs for the last 2000 years.

Stay in your lane with your own false religions white peole. These days it is pretty much only bible thumping looney bins from America trying to preach and perform missions.

Um, you should maybe think about why middle eastern countries have contributed billions of dollars to building mosques and educational systems in the US. Just think about it. It doesn't match the Muslim population.

The mosque near me is always jam packed on Fridays. I think you underestimate the population. But anyways, the Muslims of this country are not going to poor neighborhoods and offering food only if they convert. For missionaries, it’s the concept that your ways are inferior to my ways that irks people. They use manipulation to get more believers and that’s not right. I have no problem with people preaching their beliefs but there is a history of abuse and manipulation that needs to be addressed.

Free speech in the marketplace of ideas. If your culture was strong, proselytizing bad ideas wouldn't work.

The greatest tragedy is the billions who know nothing of the flying spaghetti monster, having bever been touched by his noodly appendage.

Missionaries going to these countries where these religions are the majority and using economic power to convert is problematic for all the reasons stated by others. I literally saw a small one room church (but with a cross) on an uninhabited holy spot in southern India. It was so obnoxious and obviously provocative and insensitive - why? Why is your Christian faith better? It is newer, it is more violent, and less tolerant. Keep it to yourselves and let others live how they wish to live.

Southern India has had Christianity since before Europe. The legend is that Doubting Thomas made his way to Kerala.

I'm Jewish, but I understand that proselytizing is part of the Christian religion. I politely tell them I'm not interested.

Muslims proselytize in jails and offer employment to parolees, like those scent-sellers you see in downtown DC. And they do blanket places like Alexandria with pamphlets.

Practicing their belief by attempting to eradicate other people’s beliefs?

No. That is not worth my limited tolerance. It’s evil

If you want to practice your beliefs, privately, for yourself, I have all the respect on the world. Missionaries and proselytizing is profoundly hateful and violent to communities.

Why? Are these communities so fragile that they can’t stand a visit from Christians? What are you so afraid of?

They purposely go to fragile communities to preach. You don’t see missionaries going to wealthy Hindu or Buddhist neighborhoods to save lives. Are their souls not worthy or is it because the poor are easier to control?

They probably gave money to the local schools or the pastor has a clinic on the first floor of his house. I’ve seen this.

The Christian faith is better because only THEY have the right faith...didn't you know that? They not only believe it, but part of their "faith" is converting as many other people as they can because of course all those other people are wrong. /s

No need. In wealthy urban enclaves the British colonizers already built their churches 100 years ago, for themselves and for proselytizing.

It is so sickeningly crass that I can't believe this insane practice still goes on. And it is usually nutty bible thumping Americans doing the proselytizing.

How about Yankee christians stay at home and mind their own damn business? Quit trying to interfere with other cultures and religions. Missionaries are nothing but disgusting ethnocentrism on display. Maybe it is time buddhists send monks on a mission in America to convert all of the lost souls practicing a false religion who are doomed to hell and will never reach nirvana?

The slacks, button down shirts and ties suggest Mormons. Almost all young Mormons go on "mission" abroad for a year or two. They are everywhere. They are known for building relatively swanky schools as a way to induce converts.

Now do imams in prison.

The ROK and and global south are heavily invested in missionary activity, to include sending missionaries to the West.

So what? Again, what are you so afraid of? That people will hear and accept the truth and turn from your level of hatred?

+1

Disgusting. Proselytizing should be outlawed. At least with vulnerable people.
