My DC got the email but no decision. But just yesterday got a reminder to do the financial aid stuff. Why send that if they are going to reject the next day?? |
Yes. And why not just reject/defer/wait list? The cutesy letter is just patronizing to the students who applied. |
What did UTK do? |
It says 25% have received offers. Why all the panic and immediate hate for VT? Their yield is nothing to get all freaked out about. Many of those kids in the 25% will have offers from great universities that they will accept. Or financial aid/merit. Or a yes from an instate like MD.
|
Not everyone lives in MD. For Virginians, VT is an instate. |
Exactly! VT averages around 30% yield most years so 25% of applicants getting offers doesn't mean 25% of "seats are taken" as someone suggested above. More like 7.5% of seats potentially taken. They still have to fill over 92% of seats! |
VT did not send emails to everyone with ED applications. They only sent the email to some students. Assumption being that these are the ED applicants that are already reviewed. The issue is that they sent only some kids the letter, but then did not give many of them an answer, even if it is a rejection or deferral, though clearly their application has likely been reviewed and a decision made. If VT sent emails to ALL of the ED applicants, then it would be no big deal. But to send emails to only some ED applicants, but then nothing beyond the check your portal email, is a really stupid way to go about it. At least Tennessee Knoxville's thing was accidental. VT did this intentionally. |
You are missing the point. MD residents would likely pick MD over VT. |
VT does not have ED. |
Somehow their early decision system synced to the self reported grade and SAT updates done by students applying to VTs later deadline, showing a bunch of ED applicants as submitting late, kicking them out of the ED cycle and into regular admissions. When results came out, all those kids who also applied to VT got letters from UTK saying their applications were moved from ED to regular decision due to missing the ED application deadline, even if they submitted months ago and had confirmation from UTK that their ED applications were in and complete. There is a really long thread on college confidential about it. They managed to fix it and have the acceptances, scholarships, deferrals and rejections out by 7PM the next day. |
Ok. EA. Whatever. |
Early Action. |
I am thinking the same thing - they are nervous that kids they want will ED2 to another school. If they did it a bit more rolling like Penn State I don’t think people would be complaining- but how they did it is odd and off putting. |
25% of the seats are not taken. |
Late February doesn't seem very EA'ish : ![]() |
