Fashion sneaker that's IN right now

Comfort + luxe: Golden Goose. I like the leather quality and they have good cushioning, particularly the ball star with a bit of a heel slope. This could be just my posture, but I find it better than the full platform of the Chuck 70s. (Which are also nice!)

Vejas look nice, but I don't find them comfortable at all.

I wore converse for year (like 1990-2015) and then other people had them. I then cycled through Veja, Onisuka Tiger, Feyuie, retro new balance, and finally all white Air Force 1s.

I thought about getting a soccer shoe with the stripes, but I am in my 40s and I’m not trying to act like a 20 something TikToker. The “cool mom” shoe at my kids’ elementary still seems to be the ones with the gold stars that look dirty. I have settled on Reebok Club C 85 as my “all white” shoe and I have several colors each of Vans slip ons and French garden clogs - like slightly elevated Crocs.

I'm seeing a lot of Nike Dunks

I think some of us aging dorks just occasionally want some fashion advice to try to avoid buying something that makes us look even dorkier. Not sure why people can’t just answer the question. OP, thanks for posting this; I was wondering myself.

I am in the market for a new pair that's under $150, comfortable and not too bulky (no platforms).

Stan Smith's were uncomfortable and super squeaky.

My leather Nike's are great but I've had them two years and I'm ready for a new pair.

Please send me ideas. I'd be happy to try Vejas if they are still cool (I don't want to get them if they are out or on their way out). My 16 year old son loves his Vejas.

If you are trying this hard, it shows and you'll inherently never be "cool" - just thought you should know this up front.

Are you from the olden times? My 19 year old daughter just saw your comment over my shoulder and was like wow, we learned not to talk to people like that in kindergarten. Being this rude to innocent people hasn’t been appropriate for eons, so I’m going to assume you’re ancient and confused. Enjoy your bespoke sneakers, Jane Dean.

Oh and if they’re Isabel Marant, that’s not cool either, just up front, try hard.

I’m amused by the idea that kids are any nicer today than they ever were.

People are busy and looking for guidance. They don't know what is even out there to find out what they like. It takes time to be ahead of trends - and knowledge. A lot of people count on someone else - an influencer, a story, DCUM (gd help them) - to help guide them through infinite choices, so among those things that happen to be stylish now you can select what you like.

Do you think Vogue exists because no one is looking for some help figuring out what to wear? Do you think influencers make money because no one is interested in their take on what looks good right now? Do you think someone who has an hour free to go roam DSW is going to come up with something better than if they started by asking people they consider their cohort what they think looks good these days?

+1. There are hundreds of sneakers out there. And honestly, I did try to follow the "buy what you like" advice last week only to find that the sneakers I DO like- "Nike Daybreak" are apparently so out that they aren't made anymore. Boo! Clearly I should have bought a second pair last year- I thought they were a nice balance between cute and comfortable- walked all over Disney in them.

I ended up with New Balance 547s because they were on sale at Zappos and they look nice. I have Vans too but sometimes you just need something a bit more substantial. But I don't know why these threads generate such angst among some posters on here, it's a fashion forum after all.

OP here. Thank you. I guess I didn’t make it clear that I just wanted advice on what’s in style. I’m under no illusion that a cool sneaker will transform me. I don’t need the trendiest of everything but I’d like to not invest in something that is totally over!

We get you. That pp sounds like a former friend of mine in high school.

Honestly, I think those Nike air and 80s new balance shoes are so ugly, I can’t take these trends too seriously. No need for Alexander McQueen either. I think you’re fine with a Veja or one of the better looking new balance shoes at j crew. But all that matters is you get what YOU like. All sneakers seem to be fashionable at the moment.

I’ve found I hate the super light sneakers-I like the stability and weight of a heavier sole.

I’m boring. I wear Brooks Hyperion Tempos for running and Keds for sneakers.
