You think it's just fast food that's gotten ridiculous? Been to a grocery store recently?

Yes. It doesn’t cost me $13 to buy ingredients for a sandwich.

What? Its $6 for deli meat these days. $3 for bread. Lettuce is another $2. Tomatoes are $1. Literally. Mayo and condiments are extra.

That's more than 1 sandwich though.

But. . . I hate the prices too, but the percentage of income spent on food is pretty much the same as in the 1980s. Which is a little higher than it had been since about 2007, but still way less than in 1960 (17%). And the percentage we do spend on food is less than other developed countries.

And that makes you only 1 sandwich?

Why are you being so obtuse? The POINT is that all of these things cost half as much within living memory (i.e. four years ago). When prices go up that much that quickly the public notices, especially when their wages haven't risen.

Exaggerating much?

What people don't realize until they've been on the planet long enough is that this happens periodically. in 1970 there was a huge to-do about meat prices, made the cover of Time magazine with a pic of the week's supply of meat one housewife (that's what they were back then) bought when she cut back on meat purchases. In the late 70s it was coffee--I was in college then and suddenly everybody in the country was buying coffee stretched with roasted barley (it made some weird colors when you added milk compared to 100% coffee). Bird flue hits eggs and chickens, especially in recent years.

The US has cheap food. Period.

What I do dislike is how all the poor people food (think chicken wings, bony meat cuts like ribs) became desirable food and much more expensive relative to the rest of the animal than before.

I particularly detest looking at a "crown"of broccoli (literally one stem) with a $3 price tag. I steer towards the basics like corrots and cabbage more then ever.

Sure we can. We just can't have both, while the 1% hoards 80% of the wealth of our country. We can have universal Healthcare, paid parental leave, and free higher education too. Other countries manage it. We choose not to because the billionaires need more yatchs.

That is capitalism baby. Get a better job or you don't deserve to eat.

That is LITERALLY the motto of the right.

That should be the motto of every adult.

Or how about, everyone deserves to eat. And there is value in all work. If our society requires the work, there is value in it. And your value as a human is not tied to your labor. Or no one should go hungry in the richest country on earth. Not as catchy I know, but much less disgusting.

We need to flatten the tax code to where you actually have to pay for something instead of thinking you have a right to everyone else's property.

The public doesn’t know how to shop. I’ve been saying it for years. Shop sales and loss leaders, buy food that’s in season, stay out of the center aisles, and be loyal to no one, and your prices will remain relatively stable over time. I paid less for proteins this month than I did on an inflation adjusted basis 10 years ago. Some weeks we eat burger, some weeks we eat rib roast, some weeks we eat pork or chicken or vegetarian. I know how to cook at all.

If you’re going to rely on hyper processed junk food week over week and only want to go to one premium grocery store and buy the same crap every week, you’re going to pay for that. Convenience costs money. Ignorance costs money. And those companies are making too tidy a profit from the lie that is “inflation” to stop until competitive pressures force them to.

Lots of people don't know how to cook anymore. The best investment you can make in your health (and thus your wealth) is to learn how to shop and learn how to cook healthy meals. You will definitely eat more nutritious food (more micronutrients that you don't get in french fries). You will feel so much better. Also less sugar (which has absolutely no nutrition, just empty calories).

+1. And many of us were not taught. We taught ourselves. People today are just lazy and want to throw money at everything and then complain it’s expensive.

Pretty easy to shoplift items if you do self checkout. Just saying .

You can't earn 1 billion dollars. Why justify that kind of wealth hoarding?

Because I don't lead a life of jealousy, I realize billionaires don't have stacks of cash sitting in a vault but rather have it out circulating in the economy to create jobs, and I'm not ignorant like 50% of the population who don't have a pot to piss in. Got it?

You are the definition of ignorant if you believe what you say you do.

In any other closed system with limited resources, someone who hoardes more resources than they could possibly need while people around them suffer and die — we'd call them a psychopath. In America we call them billionaires, capitalists, and "job creators" and morons like you worship them.

In science, when something depends on infinite growth where there are limited resources, we call it cancer. In economics we call it capitalism, and morons like you worship it.

Wake the f@ck up.

LOL at the notion that all billionaires are just out there creating jobs with their wealth. Honey, they're buying $$$$$$ art and holding it in free ports to avoid taxes. They're not going to be hurting if they start paying a small percentage more of their wealth in taxes.

We wouldn't have the same economy, because he doesn't believe in the same things this administration believes in.

He's a businessman. He KNOWS that side of the equation. Has Biden ever had a private job outside of government in his life?

Has Trump ever had a business that didn't fail or fall under scrutiny for unethical practices? Why no, he did not. The track record of his businesses is really awful. How many times has he declared bankruptcy? You know why he is a millionaire? Because he sold his name to others' businesses. That's about the only thing he knows how to do. Hawk his name.

Trump never had a political job before being president and it showed, painfully.

Explain his multiple bankruptcies then, genius.

He is hack who inherited his money. And now it is been proven fraudster and may just lose it all.

Because the Trump organization has around 500 individual companies and you cite four or five bankruptcies. His branding is everywhere. He has a metric shit ton of companies under the Trump name.

You leave out DETAILS.

Do you know of many companies or organizations that have NOT ended on the timeline as bankruptcy? Bankruptcy hits all companies eventually. That's the natural birth to death model of a company.

How many contractors and other workers has Rumpus stiffed over the years, refused to pay their invoices that he owed? He is an absolute crook and that is a fact that can be proven over and over again.

You don't read very much, do you? The stories of his stiffing small-time businesses are absolutely infuriating. Google Trump + piano and then come back and tell us what you think after you read about his swindling.

Here, I'll make it easier for you and give you the link: https://theweek.com/speedreads/651801/music-store-owner-sold-trump-100000-worth-pianos-trump-refused-pay
