Axelrod Biden should drop out of 2024

Three pages and this seems to be the only comment on Biden's diminished mental capacity. Anyone with the misfortune of having a parent in this situation knows this only gets worse. While he is sometimes mentally sharp, he is just as likely to be incoherent and shuffling about like an old man. Why are Democrats afraid to state the obvious. No chance he can serve another full term? Bring on Newsome or someone else.

I would counter by asking why Republicans are afraid to acknowledge that Trump has in the past and is currently also showing signs of cognitive decline. There are tons of recent examples of him talking on camera and being incoherent or confused about where he is. Perhaps you haven't seen them if you only follow Fox or Newsmax, but I can assure you that they are real. Granted, Trump doesn't look as frail as Biden (probably because fatter old people just don't look as frail as thinner old people), but given that both are bound to have some defects due to age, most sane people are going to go with the guy who has more experience (Biden is probably the most experienced president we've ever had)--and who isn't actively undermining the constitution.

Here's the thing. I held my nose and voted for Biden. He's senile and says some really dumb shit. I would've taken a primary challenger even before his feckless support for limitless bombing of civilians.

I know a lot of young people and POC that were strong Dem election staff. So many are ashamed of their prior support for Biden. Older Dems don't see that young Dems won't stand for our tax dollars going to genocide while we can't afford to feed, house, heal, and educate our own people in America.

He has no handle on Israel. Asking for a "pause" while handing over the company credit card to continue killing thousands of innocent civilians. Old Dems might not care but the new generation isn't blind.

So their solution is to vote for Trump, the great defender of Palestinians?

He is not, in fact, "senile." Stop parroting that line. It's an especially stupid point since Biden's rival also has a track record of saying "dumb shit" and appearing at times to exhibit cognitive decline. I'd like to see how coherent YOU would be if you ran the world's most powerful country and shouldered the immense responsibility and stress of that job. My DH has been to several small meetings (40 people and under) where Biden has spoken at length without notes or a teleprompter and spoke clearly and with knowledgeably about the policy issue at hand. So I'm going to go with DH's assessment over yours.

Easy, there! I am not making a case for Trump. I agree he is also in decline. You are throwing Fox News, fat people and everything else as a response. The point I am making is that no one is addressing the elephant in the room and that is that Biden, while once sharp and competent, is np longer is sharp and competent. Saying that he is better than the other senile guy is a poor argument. Biden needs to step aside or be pushed out of the way. Why is everyone walking on eggshells and being defensive about this?

Blah blah blah. You should read the polls and what voters say in the NYT articles. The simple reality is that Biden's cognitive decline is a very different place than Turnip's. Turnip is wacky at times, but Biden is genuinely in cognitive decline. The vast majority of Americans agree - 71% say he is too old which is significantly higher than polling on Turnip's age.

“Only @JoeBiden can make this decision,” Axelrod wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. “If he continues to run, he will be the nominee of the Democratic Party. What he needs to decide is whether that is wise; whether it’s in HIS best interest or the country’s?”

I agree. Biden has really messed up with his response to Israel and there is no way to come back from it. That situation will only get worst. Ideally the republicans impeach, remove him from office and bar him from running/serving again. That would rally the democrats but remove Biden from the ticket.

Biden has not messed up the response to israel. The far left of the Democratic Party has lost its mind.

You mean one representative?

The vast majority of Americans side with Israel over Palestine thanks to Hamas. It doesn't mean there is appetite for a "war" but Americans aren't disapproving of Biden's supporting Israel or Israel's right to defend themselves because of Palestine's terrorism and attacks on Israel on October 7. Only loony left Democrats seem to think otherwise, which tells you everything about the loony left. People aren't rushing to Turnip because Biden is pro Israel. Because Turnip is even more pro Israel than Biden.

I would never run for office because I am not fit for office. Biden had a long successful career but it's time for grandpa to go home now. I want a primary challenger. I find it hard to believe there isn't ONE possible Dem option besides Biden. I don't want Trump, but I don't want Biden to think he's got my vote no matter what he does. At the end of the day, I will probably vote for Biden if he's on the ballot. But soooo many others won't vote or will write-in, and Trump will still win.

As someone said earlier, the importance of the youth vote is over stated in every election. Biden has probably figured out after the student loan forgiveness debacle that pandering to woke youths is not a winning strategy.

I don’t mind Biden’s handling of Israel or Ukraine but will not vote for him again due to other niche issues. The problem is the only other potential Dem candidates (Harris, Newsom, who else?) are even more unpopular than Biden.

What we have here is a case of "perception is reality." Biden looks frail, his voice has gotten thinner/raspier with time (like Bill Clinton's has), he has physically stumbled a few times, and he jumbles his words sometimes, probably due to tiredness. There's no doubt that the job ages one immensely. Trump doesn't look as frail because he is not as lean (although he doesn't exactly look healthy either), his voice is stronger, and people seem to think that his yelling, trash-talking, combative nature is somehow more "youthful," but there is no objective data showing that Biden is experiencing more cognitive decline than Trump is. Biden just looks and sounds older.

If Biden says he is not running everyone jumps in.

Man. Younger Dems should really crack open a textbook or a dictionary and look up what a genocide is. They need to stop getting their news from uneducated idiots on TikTok who quit school to become an influencer at 17.
