Safe schools for a Jewish kid.

Are you folks serious about no recent murders due to being Jewish? Did you all forget this happened?

There is a politics forum for that

Those groups may all be marginalized but no one is marching around calling for their murder. Jewish students are under particular threat right now. Please open your eyes and acknowledge it!

Jewish people in the US are freaking out because people are saying mean words. Meanwhile muslims, black people, Asian people, and LGBTQ people are actually getting murdered.

Wow! I guess you were under a rock when Hamas murdered thousands of Jews. You may want to look it up so you can properly educate yourself before speaking. BTW... Muslims should be capitalized.

Can you read? Are you in Israel or the US? To sit here in the US and worry for your safety and tell others no one else is being murdered (which is what this is in response to - someone got upset that other groups were mentioned and said they're not being murdered) when not one Jewish person in the US has been harmed for being Jewish in the last gosh knows when, but other groups have been harmed for being who they are, is rich!

The media bubble is real. The algorithm shows you stories about people, places, and things you care about. If your news feed doesn't show you reportage on atrocities against "other" people it is because the computer knows who/what you care about and who/what you don't care about.

We are also horrified by the loss of life of innocent Palestinians. We are not safe in a world with Hamas and they are hiding in Gaza behind innocent civilians. This is a no-win situation. We want more humanitarian aid for the people of Gaza. We don’t understand why Egypt isn’t allowing Palestinians through the Rafa crossing and Muslim countries aren’t allowing them to immigrate. We believe Palestinians have the right to live in peace and would like to see Hamas wiped out and then have those Palestinians seeking peace return to live a safer and better life. We find it difficult to hear students saying innocent Israelis had this coming but that is the official stance of these groups protesting. I would never ever say innocent Palestinians had anything coming. Every innocent life is valuable. Every single one. What my kids have a problem with is the hate crimes around their campus. People targeting others purely for their religion. People defacing their dorm room doors with offensive images and language. They do not feel safe.

Israel is not only saying that but showing it, so . . .

Please read the PP again. Many American Jews are horrified by Israel’s bombardment of Gaza and its decision to cut off food, water and fuel.
So I’m not sure what your comment is trying to say….

I'm trying to say your actions/support for Israel contradicts what you are saying.

Then you are making the argument that your own actions support terrorists. Hamas is the government in Gaza and you aren’t willing to condemn the killing of innocents by Hamas? We can’t afford to think in black and white terms or we will never ever find peace. This is a terrible tragedy. I pray for peace and a path forward.

First of all how do you know what I will or will not condemn. No one asked me what I do or do not condemn. I condemn Hamas and the Israeli Government.

Now explain the tv. I'm not on Twitter or Tik Tok. I don't see or get news from Facebook. I watch the evening news and the BBC.

No one forgot that happened in 2018. You're losing the context. This post about safety is in direct result to CURRENT events. Then someone said are ____ safe (insert groups of people who are constantly in danger in the U.S.). Someone then responded that it was dense because no one is killing ____. I was reacting to that. No one is killing U.S. Jewish people currently, but they ARE currently killing ______. So the response about "are ____ safe" was relevant and timely. More timely than the concern for American Jews as a matter of fact.

I watch all of them. It is exhausting but useful. Everything from OAN to Democracy Now. Hearing the exact same story covered in completely different ways can be maddening.

I just want to say I am sorry that you have to ask this question. I don’t think it is crazy FYI. I don’t have a Va answer (not any information that I am familiar with) but Catholic schools tend to be very supportive and always have had a strong Jewish community. Boston College is less churchy than Notre Dame FWIW

You mention BC but I'd emphasize that BC is Jesuit and those universities in particular are supportive and encourage communication and understanding across cultures, religions, nations.

+1000. This is a terrible site for this kind of information. I agree with the comments above.

Clearly written by someone who is Black, female, LGBTQ and Muslim. Few others on the planet could marginalize Antisemitism in America. And, for the record, I can read. Which is more than I can say for many of those that support your position.

Online posts (as terrible as they are) would not stop me from sending my child to a particular school. We know that bad things happen all over the US to ordinary people doing things we all do.

+1

I believe the online posts could have come from anyone on that website that covers greek topics for many colleges. So it’s not necessarily someone connected to the school.

Your kid is still safest at schools like Tulane, Cornell, and GWU that have sizable Jewish populations with a strong voice. In spite of recent incidents that are getting outsized shock value on social media.

Your kid is in a much more precarious position w/r/t day-to-day anti-semitism if he's the "only" on campus without a robust Jewish campus life due to small numbers.

Well, we have already gotten to the "ability to read" snark. Just four pages into the thread...

Where does PP state she supports the state of Israel and the actions it is taking? She is stating the opposite.
