Europa, Europa
Last Temptation of Christ ( despite the evangelical backlash, this profoundly deepened my faith and shaped the way I think about Christianity. Of course, I haven’t rewatched it—or Europa Europa—since college, so I recognize an adult viewer today might have a different reaction)

My girlfriend at the time broke up,with me because I wasn’t sufficiently moved by this movie. She probably made the right call.

Requiem for a Dream, for sure. That movie has stayed with me like no other.

I would not have thought of Dead Poet's Society, but that fits the bill as well. I would (and do) rewatch that from time to time, but I will never ever ever watch Requiem for a Dream again.

I’m just about the only 50-year-old who had never seen Fight Club. Watched it on Saturday and have barely stopped thinking about it since.

Yes, that is a great movie. "Why do guys like you and me know what a duvet is?" lol

I'm a PP who agreed about Requiem for a Dream, and yeah - it is an amazing movie, but it is not rewatchable.

Into the Wild. I must have been early 20s when it came out and I remember not being able to sit up from the couch for what felt like hours after it ended. I’m not sure it would hold up now that I’m older, wiser, and a parent, but really stuck with me and every now and then I think about that story.

Jude, 1996 movie based on Hardy’s Jude the Obscure. I remember sobbing for an hour afterwards. It made me rethink my parenting though my situation was nothing like it at all

The Road, based on Cormac McCarthy’s book. Also devastating.

Requiem for a Dream
Revolutionary Road
Melancholia with Kirsten Dunst
Blue Valentine
Manchester by the Sea
Clean and Sober
The Emigrants with Liv Ullman and Max Von Sydow
Ryan’s Daughter

Oh, yes, this is a great one. I saw it as a much older person and was quite moved by it.
