I am on a Julia Roberts streak and found The Normal Heart (In 1980s New York, a writer (Mark Ruffalo) and his friends join forces to expose the truth about the emerging AIDs crisis to both the government and the gay community.). I highly recommend it, it brought up a lot of emotions but enhanced my knowledge about the gay community since I'm on the younger side.

Requiem for a Dream and Pi (both Darren Aronofsky films) are very heavy and thought provoking in a way that really stays with you. Requiem for a Dream definitely made me thing differently about drug dependency and addiction generally.
I also have always loved the movie Contact (based on a Carl Sagan book, with Jodie Foster). I think it might not age well, I'm not sure, but it had a very profound impact on the way I think about life and religion when it came out in the 1990s. |
