I need to find an outfit/dress for a Christmas party at my spouse law firm.
Party will be in Seattle, so my understanding it will be less fancy than on the East Coast?
I am 5’5, 115 pounds, 43 y.o. Pretty fit, but don’t have great arms or legs. So no mini probably.

go to the “is it okay to wear plaid now” and buy the J Crew dress OP linked.

No! Please don't. It is being skewered on the other thread. We are grown women and shouldn't be dressing like we are going to our 1st grade Christmas pageant.

The giant bow is a big no. I love Lilly but not this dress.

Bummer, I actually liked this dress

I'm actually in the opposite camp. I think the dress is nice if you keep the hair and makeup simple.

For events like these, I like satin or velvet fitted ankle length pants with a fun heel (silver, etc) and a top such as: https://tnuck.com/products/black-embellished-faven-blouse

I find I can more easily rewear the outfit pieces, dress up/down, etc.

You cannot go wrong with a classic black number. Something timeless.
Here is something I like: https://normakamali.com/products/long-sleeve-diana-gown-black-black-mesh-kk4223pm286001?vw=women

First one is way too sexy for this kind of party. Second one is fun but will definitely not be blend in kind of outfit. I think it could work. The sundress thing is also too revealing for a work party like this.

Honestly I thought the vineyard vines plaid one was cute for a holiday work party where you are the wife and therefore no one needs to take you that seriously. It gives me a sort of retro charlotte sex in the city vibe that is fun while still conservative. For a small framed woman, I think it’s cute.

I’m a law firm partner. I usually wear a solid color dress knee length or black pants with a festive sweater or shirt. I tend not to do black or navy for the holiday party since my daily uniform is black or navy. We splash out for the holiday party by putting on a jewel tone. I wouldn’t wear a sweater dress because these things are always too warm and you end up red faced and people think you’re drunk.

Not sure why it gets the hate, but this forum skews really frump, so maybe that’s why.

I dk what is cute about the dress? Huge bow on front, print or taffeta?
This dress is a culmination of frumpy itself.

This dress is only frumpy if you are heavy. Its a nice, festive dress for the holidays and would look great if worn with the right attitude to pull it off. I agree that this crowd is notoriously critical of anything that skews away from boring DC traditional.

This would be great for a lot of holiday events.

This plaid just says little girl holiday dress to me. Always and forever. I’m fine with it for pants.
