For a lab interested in business, I would look at Michigan, Wisconsin, NYU, Northwestern and Indiana.

Could anyone in this thread compare and contrast Case Western with Rice and Wash. U.?

I can’t but I can tell you that the kids I know who apply to CWRU always apply to Rice and Wash U, too. The only one I know who chose one of the latter two over CWRU went to Wash U with a way bigger aid package. They liked the kids at Case better but had 4 other siblings so they had to chase aid.

Rice was a big deal for a while and I love the neighborhood around the campus, but it fell out of favor in our high school and neighborhood circles. I couldn’t tell you why.

Thanks. Would you happen to know how CWRU is for humanities and social sciences? When I look on Niche, it seems not that competitive for humanities and social sciences. If that’s true, and is fine in those fields, maybe it’s a great near safety for humanities and social sciences students.

There are some programs that have very few majors and of those they are often also majoring in something else. So depending on what your DC is interested in, it is important to ask about how many majors, how much support, when courses are offered. This is a good strategy for any college really--but especially the more tech focused schools. They may not really have any career support for the particular major if 75% are majoring in CS + particular social science/humanity major.

We didn't really get those vibes from CWRU. Maybe it's the weather or something but it seemed a lot more serious and hardcore. More along the lines of Carnegie Mellon.

This Rice vibe comes through on everything EVERYTHING I read about the place. I really hope my kid has the stamina to apply there. He's fading as he submits applications, and Rice would be a regular decision kind of place, and I really hope he actually submits an application! (and then gets in, and maybe gets some merit aid? don't even know if they offer it, and then likes it when he visits).... So actually, lots of unknowns. Just here to say I agree it's got a Golden Retriever kind of vibe! Wish it were closer to DC!
