The fiscal fundamentals in an unprecedented environment need to be addressed and the Council has failed to do so. Only the checks and balances put in place by the first control board has prevented the creation of new programs there is no revenue to fund.

The basics of running a city and providing safety, from 911 working to maintaining public housing need to be put in place. The City (Mayor and Council) has failed in these tasks and it's to the point where the public safety impacts are too high.

Crime in big cities skyrocketed during the pandemic but it’s since crashed in virtually every big city — except DC. It just keeps going up here. This is a DC specific issue.

I taught young kids in DC for several years and this is sadly accurate. They're already extremely angry and violent by the time they enter kindergarten. That's not an exaggeration.

If you are going to support putting Congress in charge of DC, you might want to learn something about Congress. AOC, Omar, Presley, and Bowman are in the minority party. They won't have any control over what happens. So, your list is irrelevant.

James Comer is the chairman of the committee responsible for DC. Right now he is impeaching Joe Biden and investigating Hunter Biden. I guess that qualifies him to stop carjacking in DC.

It was supported by Eleanor Holmes Norton and helped stabilize the city and set the stage for a comeback, including getting the city needed financial resources from feds. Member of a board would be appointed, it would not be those members of Congress.

I was. Are you aware of the fiscal issues the city is facing re: CRE revenue, even if population stabilizes and tourists still come, neither a given? How do you see it as irrelevant? Help me understand your argument.

I already said politics won’t (can’t) solve it. However, people (everyone) need to start saying the obvious-that the culture in which these children are raised is bankrupt and wrong.

Dude we're all raised in that culture, but when you can make money you don't steal cars. You shank your coworkers or whatever it takes to get ahead / make more money.

Politically palatable? Nope. But I know that for many years (maybe still) DC effectively incentivized teen pregnancy by doling out family support in proportion to each child that a mother had. I had a friend who worked with social services. She said young mothers would TRY to get pregnant again in order to get a bigger check. It would be nice to see the opposite strategy: young, disadvantaged people given a financial incentive to stay in school, get training, and NOT have children before the age of 25. But don't dare suggest something like this in public - you'll be tarred and feathered.
