If you have a 5-7yo kid, what do you do about car seats/taxis when traveling?

We use the foldable seats. Every time.

We bring for my 5yo. We either rent a car, hire a driver so we can leave it in the car, or just deal with carting it around, depending on where we’re going. If a big urban center we take public transit instead usually. I don’t think this is the most common choice but it’s what feels right for us.

This is by far the best solution! We use it all the time when traveling

That’s awful.

OP, we have a 6 year old. We carry a booster seat around. Vehicle safety is just too important.

Booster? Amateur. My 9 year old doesn't ride in any vehicle where she can't still rear-face, so we Sherpa her seat around in this:

Sometimes lame museums won't let us in so one of us hangs out with it outside or in a cafe, but her safety is so worth it.

The 11 year old has her own backpack to carry her booster around.

We don’t live in DC anymore but recently visited. The bubble bum was great - fit in my purse and made it easy to metro one way and taxi the other or taxi to a new place or meet up with friends.

sometimes bring a booster, much easier to travel with then a huge car seat. Also have a Ride Safety vest, but thats mostly for younger siblings. Sometimes in taxis ride without anything if its low speeds like most cities we travel to.

Are you sure you're using it right if you use a booster? The whole point is to bring the seatbelt down to the appropriate level so you don't need the booster...

We didn’t take any trips those ages where we needed Uber/taxi. We either rented a car or went somewhere with easy bus/metro/train service.

Driving in a city like New York is just as dangerous as highway driving.

Horrible.

A rational interpretation of per-capita, per-mile, and type-of-crash statistics would refute your argument.

Great for you. We prioritize our kid’s safety.

If that were true, you wouldn’t leave the house.

Why would a bus be safer?
