If you have a 5-7yo kid, what do you do about car seats/taxis when traveling?

Our kids are still in boosters in our cars. We are going on a trip where we really don't need to rent a car, but being able to take a couple Ubers would be extremely convienent. Are you traveling with boosters? Has anyone tried the ride safe vests?

We just risk it. The convenience is amazing.

That’s awful.

OP, we have a 6 year old. We carry a booster seat around. Vehicle safety is just too important.

There are inflatable boosters you could use. Hiccapop is one brand.

+1 If its just one or two ubers we just put seat belts on. If we're renting a car and driving a lot we would bring a booster.

We use a bubble bum for the ride to/from the airport. But then for short intercity rides, we sometimes just go without.

I did a couple of short Uber rides in NYC with DD (7) - put her in the middle back seat, buckled securely. Would not do this for longer periods of highway driving.

Driving in a city like New York is just as dangerous as highway driving.

Horrible.

OP keep in mind that DCUM tends to sway REALLY conservative on car seat things. I bet if you polled all the parents in your 7 year olds class, the vast majority would say they would risk it for a couple short rides. But DCUM will make you feel like a devil parent.

We risk it too.

Took a ton of taxis in Taipei, figures my kids were still safer than the kids on the back of scooters.

It's a risk calculation. You are not comfortable, meanwhile other people are. It's ok for you to just say what you do without all the name calling.

OP, it would depend how much time. Over 5, I'd be ok with an occasional trip without a booster, but if we were doing it daily, I'd look at getting a travel booster. And yes, still belted securely.

How is that a reasonable standard? That doesn’t make it safe.

If we rent a car, we will rent a booster or borrow from relatives. If we are just taking taxis/rideshare, we use an inflatable product or just put a backpack under her butt. This also what we do in DC if we need to take a random Uber. We do not travel with a booster.
