New Mexico Governor's unConstitutional power grab

If you say "more guns" then that's what's already been done for decades, and it hasn't worked.

How about an ACTUAL proposal?

And if you don't have an actual proposal, then maybe you should STFU and sit down.

So let's hear it.... give me a serious proposal, or STFU and sit down.

Crickets... nothing but support for lazy idiot Sheriffs who don't want to solve the gun problem plaguing their citizens because said Sheriffs say the right "freedumb" words.

Since open carry laws are state laws, the real issue here is not the US Constitution but the New Mexico Constitution and what it allows.

Open carry is illegal in Florida, for instance. And up until July 1, you needed a special permit for concealed carry.

So unless and until we are discussing New Mexico constitutional law, we are off topic.

Well clearly the New Mexico Constitution is a huge problem right now, because it has allowed gun violence to spiral out of control. It's time for an amendment.

Article II - Bill of Rights
§ 6 Right to bear arms.
Universal Citation: NM Const art II § 6
No law shall abridge the right of the citizen to keep and bear arms for security and defense, for lawful hunting and recreational use and for other lawful purposes, but nothing herein shall be held to permit the carrying of concealed weapons. No municipality or county shall regulate, in any way, an incident of the right to keep and bear arms. (As amended November 2, 1971 and November 2, 1986.)

Except the problem is that the guns she is concerned about are being used for crime, which is not covered under security, defense, lawful hunting and recreational purposes et cetera.

And, you think that the criminals are just going to forget about carrying around their firearms because of her order?

If criminals are going to carry guns then they are going to carry guns - and that will make the criminals a hell of a lot easier to spot. Except now we have idiots like the Bernalillo Sheriff who wants criminals to be allowed to carry guns.

Her order would have made the Sheriff's job of catching criminals a hell of a lot easier. But instead the Sheriff doesn't want to do that job of catching criminals, instead he wants to play politics, while the criminals continue to shoot and commit armed robbery all around his dumb ass.

The only one playing politics is the inept governor.

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

A well informed electorate, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and read Books, shall not be infringed.

The Sheriff is scared. He is afraid that the gun nuts will start shooting his officers if they try to take their guns away. He's probably right.

He doesn't seem scared to me.
And, he is not the only sheriff in AZ refusing to comply.

Given that the governor of New Mexico issued the order, I'm not entirely surprised sheriffs in AZ are not complying.

The "inept" governor seems to be the only one who gives a shit about violent gun crime.

The rest of them - the Sheriffs and everyone fighting this, are not only inept at dealing with it, but a complete disgrace.

Well? We're waiting, Republicans.... Where is your serious proposal to deal with violent gun crime?

To Republicans it's not a gun problem...it's a mental health problem. But just because a "good guy with a gun" has no mental health issues now is no guarantee that they'll have no mental health issues in the future (and they'll still own that gun).

Canada, the UK, Australia, Japan all have mental health issues just like us...but you know what they don't have?

And... the Republicans don't actually want to do anything about mental health, either. They've repeatedly cut funding and attacked anything geared toward treating mental illness.

The "we don't have a gun problem, we have a mental health problem" is nothing but an empty deflection from the GOP.

If anything, with nonsense like that, and that Republicans accept and repeat that obvious-BS line, one has to conclude that the mental health problem is widespread within the GOP itself.
