U.S. dating pool: Nearly 50% of 18-49 year olds have tattoos

Anonymous
I don't get too emotional on the subject, but I generally don't like them because it's something a young person is sticking their older selves with. What would look good on you and be meaningful to you at 20 is going to be a little different from what would look good and meaningful at 65. I think the number of 30+ year old tattoos that still look good are vanishingly small.

And, yeah, I guess some people would say that everybody looks crappy at 65, but I don't think that's really the case.

I see tattoos everywhere. Women with calves and full sleeves and tatted out.

I really hate the look of women in wedding dresses or beautiful evening gowns with tattoed arms and back. It just doesn't look right.

It doesn't look right to whom? If it bothered them, they wouldn't have gotten it or covered it.

For real. Plus, women in ball gowns with sleeves can be an incredible look. I think it can still be tasteful, but it gives an edgier vibe. This is a woman that I would want to talk with at a party

Non visible is misleading. Likely means it is visible while wearing shorts, or t-shirt, or tank, or certain shoes and sandals. And certainly in a bikini at beach or club pool.

Eh, in general I wouldn’t want to talk to anyone who takes these kind of selfies. Dull, insecure, and self obsessed.

Yuck! Glad I'm not single!!

The Saturn pool is already pretty shallow if you aren’t poor.

I mean, I wouldn’t go out explicitly searching for a tattooed man, but my husband has tattoos from his late teens, but he’s successful at work, a wonderful husband and father, and he can F. I don’t think about his tattoos at all.

Why doesn't he get them removed? It's not that expensive.

Not everyone over 65 looks like crap, that is too extreme, but certainly you can agree that no one ever looks at someone over 60ish and marvels at their natural beauty (you might think they look beautiful for their age, or think they must have been a great beauty in their youth, but that's a different thing)

I don't even have tattoos but my thinking has always been- why not just celebrate your old body as you want, instead of fearing that you don't conform to society's expectation of what people over a certain age should look like?

They're almost always dumb and not attractive. The only person I can think of who actually looks good, with interesting and artistic tattoos, is Angelina Jolie.

I agree. Also, I'd rather no tatoos at all. I also feel this way about piercings, and that weird creepy habit of mutilating some little boys at birth.

Tell that to all of the UMC white women (i.e., a large part of DCUM) who are revolted by the "unmutilated" boys when they grow into men who try to have sex with them.

Talk to but for probably not for marriage as these arms would look bad once muscles get flabby and skin gets loose

And crepe skin in her 60s. Hi Grandma!

It looks like a drug dealer or a porn star going to the porn star award show.

Yeah. Looks like a porn actress.

I think folks should wait until they're pretty old before getting a tattoo. That way you have a pretty good idea of who you are, what will remain important to you, and what you're going to look like - more or less - for the rest of your life. Then again, I don't think anyone should choose a religion (if any) until they're 30 or older. So my views definitely aren't mainstream.

It seems bizarre to me that someone would rule everyone with a tattoo out. I’m 52 and have a text tattoo on my wrist that is very meaningful to me for multiple reasons and I got it in memory of a mentor when he passed. Not sure what on earth could be so wrong with that.

According to the stats, about 50% of women in this age group *don't* have tattoos. So that still leaves a lot of women.

As a woman, I just don't like the look of tattoos on guys.
