Elite Swimming

That list is meaningless- if you get a bad site/coach no level compensates

Go meet all the coaches and go join a practice then decide

This is a great list.

I will say that the most well-liked RMSC coaches for that level are at KSAC and Germantown. There are great swimmers at Rockville and Olney. There is a wealth of great, young RMSC boys, especially at KSAC. I think the MLK rising 9th grade boys also are really great, but I wouldn't recommend the coach.

KSAC is great but with the pool Renovation scheduled, I may think that will become an issue. I would concur about the MLK coach. My kid liked the Germantown coach alot but not sure about the level of the boys.

Here is the team list with USA swimming recognition levels: http://www.pvswim.org/pvs_club.htm

Top recognized are:
NCAP: Level 4, Gold,
FISH: Level 4, Silver, Safe Sport
Machine: Level 3, Silver
AAC: Level 1, Silver
RSMC: Level 1, Silver
Capitol Sea Devils: Level 3, Safe sport
DCCS Level 3

Level 4 is the highest correct?

PP- This list is not really a good indicator, I would definately add OCCS to the list of good teams, I think that they are out in loundon and PW counties.

Meeting all the coaches only helps if coaches stay forever, which they don't.

If the USA Swimming levels were meaningless they wouldn't exist. You can go to the USAS web site to see what these designations mean -- the criteria are quite specific -- and if it doesn't matter to you, then ignore. For me, the Safe Sport one is the most important.

The list isn't about "good teams," as many teams can be good for a given kid. But OP is looking for elite, so the criteria to get these designations can make a difference for a kid like that.

The coaches who are coaching the Futures level swimmers at these teams will likely be coaching for the next few years. If they leave, the swimmer can move teams at that point. You can't decide on a team without considering the coach.

True - we are at KSAC for this entire school year (at least) and are being told we will move to downtown Silver Spring during the renovation.

Safe Sport is a joke. The recognition of it is meaningless. There are good people that are swim coaches and there are creeps. This area has both.

I second OCCS, the reason they are so good is that they are really a Virginia league based team that gamed the system with a PO Box in Alexandria. So if you move to Woodbridge, definitely get with them. Honestly if you want the best swimming clubs and can move to Richmond, your swimmer will do better there than with PVS. If you have to be near DC, go to NCAP.

Agree- We are from MD and when I volunteer at meets as a timer, I am always impressed with the head coach from OCCS and NCAP West.

Really? Everyone on my DDs team has futures times, that is expected at that level I thought?

I doubt that…. Not every kid has a futures cut, especially boys. My swimmer graduated with winter juniors cut but got his first sectional cut in 9th grade. A 14 year old boy with a futures cut is elite.

AAC is a great club thats constantly has at least one or two elite swimmers that are making Jr. Nats +. They are also small enough that there is still individual attention from coaches. Also, the team "vibe" is reportedly better than other DMV teams as the whole senior group knows each other.

Is he more of a sprinter, mid distance or distance swimmer?

Oh, I missed the age 14. Everyone in my DDs group is in HS. Maybe all but 1 or 2 kids have at least futures cuts I think.
