I like Bethesda Bagels “flagels”, which have less of the overly-bready middle. If they would make their normal bagels less oversized, I think it would solve the problem. But even in NYC, bagels seem to have doubled in size over the past 20y.

The bagels I love the best are the ones I make at home. They’re the right size, with the right proportions, and irresistibly warm and fresh. (And yes, they’re fussy: I do the lye bath and all).

Bullfrog all the way. Used to work half a block from the eastern market one and miss it so much. Just discovered their permanent food truck in friendship heights though!

(Though I have serious doubts about the bagel opinions of anyone who thinks bullfrog bagels is good.)
