I do not have credit card debt. I have a car loan. I was able to qualify for a mortgage because I have excellent credit. Yes, I have student loan debt but it’s a manageable monthly payment. People have different appetites for debt, I get that. I commend folks who paid off their loans quickly. I had to carry mine out longer due to life obligations (caring for a chronically ill parent, being a woman and not willing to live in precarious/unsafe areas to save money on rent, etc.) This is the thing that people arguing against Biden can’t get through their heads for some reason… when I went into repayment, it was the terms of the loan that after 20 years of steady repayment (I never ever missed a payment!) that it would be forgiven! That was the agreement! Biden isn’t doing anything radical accept holding up the government’s agreements spelled out in the loan document. I took out my loan in 1993. I have paid back grants. I paid off one loan. The other one is slated to be forgiven as agreed upon. Why is it my fault loan servicers did not have the technology to accurately track my loan? That wasn’t in the loan agreement that forgiveness was contingent upon adequate technology of commercial loan servicers. |

Exactly. This is just following the terms of the original loan.
These people did nothing wrong and aren't deadbeats. |
Many of us who are eligible for this have been earning “an honest day pay” (lol) for decades, probably harder than you at your BS paper pushing NGO job, and we are anything but “entitled.” So go pound sand. |
They need to stop thinking of “entitlement” but rather “legal agreement spelled out in loan contract.” I get it that won’t fuel the rage but it is what it is. |
Want this to work, then this is what happens. For those that have contracts that say debt forgiven after 20 years of payments great. Loan provider has a tax loss against money collected elsewhere, person gets receipt paid in full, no tax dollars involved. Win-win-win. Tax dollars used to payoff debt, then loan provider wins, person with debt paid off incurs tax burden and tax payers soaked, so you have a win-lose-lose. |
You needed to voice your opposition when the student loan program began. In the meantime, the loan agreements should be honored. It’s not a “fair” thing, it’s a legal thing. |
| No fresh arguments once you actually understand the truth about everything, huh?! |
Then... don't make assumptions about others as the pp above did...... I have bolded it for your reference. |

The GOP never should have signed onto this nonsensical student loan system we have. Loans should be made by private institutions and eligible for discharge in bankruptcy. Then students would be unable to borrow huge sums for worthless degrees, and colleges would be forced to charge less or shut down entirely.
I have no problem with eliminating loans for people who have paid for 20-25 years. No one should be repaying these loans forever. |
You have Obama to thank for our current loan system. https://www.investors.com/politics/editorials/obama-created-student-loan-crisis-with-1-trillion-in-loans/ And, Republicans were unanimously opposed to the bill: https://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/26/us/politics/26loans.html |
| Bankruptcy change was the biggest mistake. We wouldn’t be in this mess if people could get their way out of these awful loans the same way they can with credit card debt, medical debt, etc. |
Yes! Including all those PPP loans that were forgiven. |
Extremely dumb comparison. Forgiveness was the key part of the PPP system from the get-go. PPP loans were made with the condition that they go toward payroll, and that if recipients didn’t do layoffs, the loans would be forgiven. Without forgiveness no one would have accepted the loans and they would have laid off their employees instead, causing an economic catastrophe and social unrest. |
This! This is where all of the anger should be directed. Too many fat administrators at these colleges. |
And too many people like you just grubbed them up without really needing them under the guise of your BS “businesses.” |
