Is there EVER a day he doesn’t get one over on the GOP’ers?!?! I’m loving this!!!!

Sick people.

Work. Pay your debts.

Why? Then it wouldn’t annoy you when Joe forgives the debt! This is sooooo much better lol!

This. Additionally, there were many of us (me!) who were initially in IDR but had our loans sold to other servicers who took us out of our agreed upon repayment structure. Here I have been making repayments for 24 years only to find out I’m not in that program anymore. Additionally, my 24 years of on time payments did not transfer between servicers. There was no technological infrastructure to maintain records across servicers.

Do you also have credit card debt? Car loan? I’m assuming you were never Able to qualify for a mortgage.

I do not have credit card debt. I have a car loan. I was able to qualify for a mortgage because I have excellent credit. Yes, I have student loan debt but it’s a manageable monthly payment. People have different appetites for debt, I get that. I commend folks who paid off their loans quickly. I had to carry mine out longer due to life obligations (caring for a chronically ill parent, being a woman and not willing to live in precarious/unsafe areas to save money on rent, etc.)

This is the thing that people arguing against Biden can’t get through their heads for some reason… when I went into repayment, it was the terms of the loan that after 20 years of steady repayment (I never ever missed a payment!) that it would be forgiven! That was the agreement! Biden isn’t doing anything radical accept holding up the government’s agreements spelled out in the loan document. I took out my loan in 1993. I have paid back grants. I paid off one loan. The other one is slated to be forgiven as agreed upon. Why is it my fault loan servicers did not have the technology to accurately track my loan? That wasn’t in the loan agreement that forgiveness was contingent upon adequate technology of commercial loan servicers.

Exactly. This is just following the terms of the original loan.

These people did nothing wrong and aren't deadbeats.

Hi hon! Maybe look into the thousands of people who work and attempt to pay off their debts only for the interest rates to mean they’re just in more debt. Cause you sound like a heartless fool.

Maybe you should have spent 5 minutes learning personal finance 101 on YouTube before taking out tens of thousands in loans? I know it is too much these days for people to spend 10 minutes on personal responsibility even though they have inordinate amounts of time to waste on Twitter, Insta, and TikTok.

The level of entitlement these days is absolutely disgusting. I truly believe we need a Great Depression 2 for the country in order to shed all of this weakness in our overly indulgent culture that's resulting in sickening entitlement mentality.

Pay your own damn bills.

They did pay their bills, for 25+ years but because of interest rates and lack of bankruptcy protection, they still have a balance with no end in sight. The income based repayment plans were always meant to last no longer than 20-30 years. And you are out a ton of money if you made income based payments for 25 years.

Omg.....you mean there is interest charged on a loan and an amortization schedule? Holy crap, welcome to the real world children.

We know, we know....adulting is hard. You paid the minimum like a moron and wonder why you're still paying 10 years later.

Truly amazing how people are getting to 40 years old these days and have the mindset of barely functional teenagers. This country is doomed.

If “adulting” means being a mean, cold stone-hearted jerk like you, then I would rather be a teenager indefinitely. And really what dooms this country are scorched earth capitalists like you who have no regard or empathy for anyone but themselves.

Adulting means delaying gratification to payoff your debts like I did. I paid off $80k in loans. I spent 10 minutes learning about finance 101, interest rates, and what it'd mean if I just paid the minimum every month. Because I was a responsible adult and not a dumbass, I paid extra every month on my loans. I used every single tax break and bonus on them. For years I forewent driving around in a nice car, I rarely bought new clothes, I hardly bought new cell phones, I didn't go on swanky trips, I didn't live in an stupidly expensive urban center, I didn't go out to happy hour and restaurants constantly with friends.....I delayed tons of gratification to pay off what I owed and what I agreed to payback. I knew it was stupid to pay the minimum because it'd tack on thousands in interest and add years of payments.

Maybe clown shows like you and the rest of the whiners would learn some good life lesson to learn how to live with less and minimalism. Shit, delayed gratification would do this country wonders during a time when everyone now thinks they're entitled to everything just because they exist and breathe air.

Quit buying crap you don't need, move to a low cost of living area, and delay your gratification. Once you finally learn financial discipline, use the difference to payoff your bills.

So sickof the rampant entitlement mentality these days. You aren't special, nor do you deserve anything simply because you exist.

+ a million

And, let's call this what it is..... It is not "forgiveness." It is a transference of debt to people who never took out loans.

Let me guess, you and the MAGA PP also kick puppies, think elementary school kids are slackers for not having jobs, and blame cancer patients for not having lived a healthy life style. You’re a mean one, Mr, Grinch.

WTH?
It *is* transference...not forgiveness.

Let me guess.... You believe you are *owed* everything you have in life. You are an entitled brat that has not yet learned how to earn an honest day pay. You have no problem with the working class subsidizing the loans YOU signed for... even though they likely have a lower income than you.

See how this works?

Many of us who are eligible for this have been earning “an honest day pay” (lol) for decades, probably harder than you at your BS paper pushing NGO job, and we are anything but “entitled.” So go pound sand.

They need to stop thinking of “entitlement” but rather “legal agreement spelled out in loan contract.” I get it that won’t fuel the rage but it is what it is.

Want this to work, then this is what happens. For those that have contracts that say debt forgiven after 20 years of payments great. Loan provider has a tax loss against money collected elsewhere, person gets receipt paid in full, no tax dollars involved.

Win-win-win.

Tax dollars used to payoff debt, then loan provider wins, person with debt paid off incurs tax burden and tax payers soaked, so you have a win-lose-lose.

You needed to voice your opposition when the student loan program began. In the meantime, the loan agreements should be honored. It’s not a “fair” thing, it’s a legal thing.

Then... don't make assumptions about others as the pp above did...... I have bolded it for your reference.

The GOP never should have signed onto this nonsensical student loan system we have. Loans should be made by private institutions and eligible for discharge in bankruptcy. Then students would be unable to borrow huge sums for worthless degrees, and colleges would be forced to charge less or shut down entirely.

I have no problem with eliminating loans for people who have paid for 20-25 years. No one should be repaying these loans forever.

You have Obama to thank for our current loan system.

And, Republicans were unanimously opposed to the bill:

Bankruptcy change was the biggest mistake. We wouldn’t be in this mess if people could get their way out of these awful loans the same way they can with credit card debt, medical debt, etc.

Extremely dumb comparison.

Forgiveness was the key part of the PPP system from the get-go. PPP loans were
made with the condition that they go toward payroll, and that if recipients didn’t do layoffs, the loans would be forgiven. Without forgiveness no one would have accepted the loans and they would have laid off their employees instead, causing an economic catastrophe and social unrest.

It’s criminal sending youth into the world saddled with debt that pays the insanely unnecessary inflated uncompetitive big education cartel parasites.

This! This is where all of the anger should be directed. Too many fat administrators at these colleges.
