Biden is at it again! A new student loan forgiveness plan was announced today. Some eligible borrowers have already received notification of their loan forgiveness. https://www.cnn.com/2023/07/14/politics/student-loan-relief-biden-administration/index.html
Is there EVER a day he doesn’t get one over on the GOP’ers?!?! I’m loving this!!!!
Sick people. Work. Pay your debts.
Why? Then it wouldn’t annoy you when Joe forgives the debt! This is sooooo much better lol!
This. Additionally, there were many of us (me!) who were initially in IDR but had our loans sold to other servicers who took us out of our agreed upon repayment structure. Here I have been making repayments for 24 years only to find out I’m not in that program anymore. Additionally, my 24 years of on time payments did not transfer between servicers. There was no technological infrastructure to maintain records across servicers.
Do you also have credit card debt? Car loan? I’m assuming you were never Able to qualify for a mortgage.
I do not have credit card debt. I have a car loan. I was able to qualify for a mortgage because I have excellent credit. Yes, I have student loan debt but it’s a manageable monthly payment. People have different appetites for debt, I get that. I commend folks who paid off their loans quickly. I had to carry mine out longer due to life obligations (caring for a chronically ill parent, being a woman and not willing to live in precarious/unsafe areas to save money on rent, etc.) This is the thing that people arguing against Biden can’t get through their heads for some reason… when I went into repayment, it was the terms of the loan that after 20 years of steady repayment (I never ever missed a payment!) that it would be forgiven! That was the agreement! Biden isn’t doing anything radical accept holding up the government’s agreements spelled out in the loan document. I took out my loan in 1993. I have paid back grants. I paid off one loan. The other one is slated to be forgiven as agreed upon. Why is it my fault loan servicers did not have the technology to accurately track my loan? That wasn’t in the loan agreement that forgiveness was contingent upon adequate technology of commercial loan servicers.
