Honestly a lot of this is what in current terms we should call geographical privilege. There are many, many urban and suburban areas in the US—to say nothing on smaller cities and towns and rural areas—where the notion of going anywhere and not driving yourself home is utterly foreign. They don’t have subways or cabs, even Uber is super rare. This is hundreds of thousands of people driving home from restaurants and bars every day. Look down on it all you want, I’m sure if you lived there you’d always have a DD every time you had a beer or glass of wine blah blah blah
But fact is, most adults are fine drinking a bit and driving. |
