| Went to Spain for spring break. No precautions mone of us got covid. I gave gotten covid twice. Both times from my kids in school. |
Assuming you are a reasonably intelligent person in possession of their faculties, if your physician will not prescribe non-narcotic/controlled dangerous substance travel and/or emergency reserve medications you need a new physician. There also are online physicians who specialize in such matters. Getting them paid by insurance may be a different matter. Paxlovid in particular needs to be started as quickly as possible, so even if it is available in your destination country it is probably better to have it on hand to avoid delay once you’ve had a positive test. |
| Statistically, most people who travel to Europe don’t get Covid. We’re been to France and Portugal, no precautions, it was fine. |
| My sons are college students and went to Ireland for spring break, which included St. Patrick's Day. They were in crowded pubs every night, festivals, parades, etc. with no masks-and did not get Covid. |
| I didn’t get Covid wading through the wall to wall crowds of the Vatican museums and the other crowded spots of Italy. It’s not like you get Covid any time you step into a crowd… |

I also thought this was an old revived post.
Summer 2022: masked but DH contracted Covid in dulles or on the plane going to Portugal. Our symptoms were extensively minor and the kids didn’t get it. No coughing. We didn’t know until we returned. My family in northern VA all got Covid locally so couldn’t travel our planned family trip to the Adirondacks. Christmas 22: Germany, France, Copenhagen: no covid. We did get colds but were negative for covid. My family in northern VA got covid. Spring break 23: london. No covid. My 4 yr old did get the stomach flu and violently vomited on the return flight (he literally began having symptoms on the flight!!!). 🤢 I got it a few days later. I would talk with your doctor if you are immunocompromised and figure out if you are well enough to travel with all the many viruses floating around. |
| I've never gotten covid from travel to Europe. Is there a reason you're particularly concerned about covid in Europe, OP? |
| London in April. No precautions at all. None of us got covid and between family and work people there were probably 25 of us. |
| We went to Rome and Sardinia last August and did not get Covid. No masking. A month later we got Covid at home from my husband. He got it from a local golf tournament with an indoor reception. We traveled internationally for Spring Break this year and did not get Covid. |

So I understand the new strain is expected to peak in China at end of June 2023, and be around the world 4 weeks thereafter.
Western nations are concerned that infections are expected to rise as immunity from previous illness wanes. It shouldn’t be catastrophic but yes, you will see a LOT more sick people this summer (Bloomberg) |
Since everyone is bashing OP, I will comment that we went to the Vatican spring break, all got Covid, & a 50-yr old otherwise healthy adult in our family ended up hospitalized for 3 days with Covid complications. Not saying you shouldn't go, but Covid is not "over" & raising the question in 2023 is completely rational. |
| We traveled to Italy last Fall and didn’t get but traveled to Spain recently and did get it. |
Yes but that could be true anywhere at this point. There is essentially zero masking anywhere in the US anymore. We live our lives right now exactly as we did in summer 2019. The virus has completely spread everywhere in the world, and the vast majority of people have some level of immunity, either from vaccination, previous infection, or both. There is nothing special about traveling and transmission versus your day to day life. |
This. To everyone saying why are you so scared, covid is NBD? Yeah covid is no big deal until the otherwise healthy person gets it and a week later has a blood clot or cardiac arrest. Not saying don't travel, but yeah it's rational to consider it, mask on flights, go places that are more amenable to spending times outdoors. As for - so what the same thing could happen at home, sure, but at home presumably you're not scrambling for medical care the same way, you aren't worrying about how you'll make your flight back etc. So maybe add to the list above - go places with decent medical care and decent english language skills, just in case. |
| I know two people that did get Covid after Europe trips. We’ve done Disney and no Covid. I guess it’s all sort of a gamble but you can mask indoors even if others are not to minimize risk. |
