| Yes, to a degree. They are doing it at Madison High School. Here is a link to their program can be found on this page - https://madisonhs.fcps.edu/academics/grading-and-reporting |
| Speaking of Madison, and Dr. Reid, she made a point to schlep out to Loudoun today to watch the McLean and Madison girls play in the state Class 6 softball final. She stayed for the whole game and helped hand out the awards at the end. |
Reid has said all schools must stop the 0-4 scale and use 50-100 next year. 50-60 F 60-70 D 70-80 C 80-90 B 90-100 A She has not yet commented one way or the other on SBG. Some of our classes are doing it and other aren’t. |
Dr. Reid.....is this you? |
Are you sure the above is true? I contacted her office to see if this would end SBG at Madison and the response was a word salad but I think the answer is no and that FCPS is working hard and it takes time to have consistency in grading across FCPS. This response along with other info such as the mandatory PD training for teachers, Equity Grading and Navigating Resistance (https://defendinged.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Equity-resistance-1.pdf), leads me to think the plan is to implement SBG in all schools. Regardless, there is a lack of transparency and a plan to shut up critics. If parents do not want equity grading, we need a SB that will fire Reid. |
What schools use the 0-4 scale? I thought only elementary schools give grades as 1-4. |
No, it wasn’t. But some of y’all act like these folks don’t care, when they regularly show up at school events after hours and on weekends. |
Amen. So much whining on this board, yet I see our school’s principal and assistant principal at evening and weekend events ALL the time. |
| I could care less if they show up at events. It looks like that’s all Reid does. It’s what are your policies and what are they doing to students. |
She’s new and I’d imagine people give her an earful when she’s in public, so it’s one way to get input. You may have a set of policies you’d like her to put in place, but they may or may not align with what others want. |
Madison is one of them. You can read this to see how the year went with 0-4. https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/1121022.page |
It is the guidance we have been given for next year at a non Madison FCPS HS. No more 4 pt scale, only 50-100 with equal distributions for each. We can put things in the gradebook however we choose, by standard, by assignment, whatever, minimum 9 grades per quarter (essentially 1 per week). |
So how will that work? Is there going to be a forced curve either up or down on each assignment to ensure an equal distribution of grades across that 50-100 scale? |
No, sorry if I was unclear. Currently there are 13% of points worth "F" (50-63) and only 7 for "D" (63-70). The remaining letters have 10 point spreads. Reid has said every letter must have a 10 point spread. |
| So looks like only full letter grades, no plus or minus grades. |
