Is it true that Reid is planning to implement SGB across all of FCPS?
Reid has said all schools must stop the 0-4 scale and use 50-100 next year. 50-60 F 60-70 D 70-80 C 80-90 B 90-100 A She has not yet commented one way or the other on SBG. Some of our classes are doing it and other aren’t.
Are you sure the above is true? I contacted her office to see if this would end SBG at Madison and the response was a word salad but I think the answer is no and that FCPS is working hard and it takes time to have consistency in grading across FCPS. This response along with other info such as the mandatory PD training for teachers, Equity Grading and Navigating Resistance (https://defendinged.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Equity-resistance-1.pdf), leads me to think the plan is to implement SBG in all schools. Regardless, there is a lack of transparency and a plan to shut up critics. If parents do not want equity grading, we need a SB that will fire Reid.
It is the guidance we have been given for next year at a non Madison FCPS HS. No more 4 pt scale, only 50-100 with equal distributions for each. We can put things in the gradebook however we choose, by standard, by assignment, whatever, minimum 9 grades per quarter (essentially 1 per week).
So how will that work? Is there going to be a forced curve either up or down on each assignment to ensure an equal distribution of grades across that 50-100 scale?
No, sorry if I was unclear. Currently there are 13% of points worth "F" (50-63) and only 7 for "D" (63-70). The remaining letters have 10 point spreads. Reid has said every letter must have a 10 point spread.
