What are you doing, MCPS???? The alleged Wheaton metro murderer is a Magruder student

They aren't but they are responsible for what happens in school, I think the point would be and it would make sense to add security and detectors.

So the metro murder happened in school OP? No I don't think that's quite right.

I'm trying to bend the facts to suit my belief that public schools must be made into prisons. If they become so awful, more people will support vouchers and school choice which is what I really really want.

It's not that I want it, exactly. Personally, I don't care. But the Cato Institute pays me to troll sites like these, pretend I have children, and pretend that I care.

And I believe what they tell me.

The most honest post of the week!

If only the police would do their jobs.

If no one reports it how can they make an arrest? You can’t seriously be suggesting the police randomly pat down people and search bags.

DP - This is legal inside schools, even if it would be unpopular.

Just because something is legal doesn’t mean it’s a good idea.

It would be unpopular because it's a terrible idea.

Why do these posters want to make schools into prisons again?

Ganglandia! All is Ganglandia!

Glad you're cool and nonchalant about teenage gunmen running around in MCPS. Yes, the rest of us are the ones overreacting. You're the sane one who's totally unfazed by the status quo.

Yes, that's the point. The point is there are guns in MCPS and what is the school system doing about it? The shooting happened on a school night. There's every reason to think kids have guns in school and MCPS isn't doing anything to proactively address it.

Bedtime happens on school nights also. Doesn’t make it in MCPS’ purview.

So they can then complain that schools are like prisons. It absolves them from getting involved in the community, paying attention to local, state & federal politics, and you asking why corporations are given so much power in our country.

Schools are not responsible for everything that goes wrong in a young persons life.

But the state should be raising my kids!

Period.

This.

An SRO would have known the kid, known his situation, etc.

Then there is another student accused of murder at the local metro station.

My kid says there are guns in school often. All the kids know and none are going to snitch.

I hadn’t seen this update to the Wheaton story. That’s pretty horrible. Not MCPS’ fault, but definitely sucks for Magruder parents.

Tell that to the student who was killed at Roosevelt HS in DC while they have SRO at the school.
They are useless except for harassing and roughing minority kids

That is not true. They often interact in a very positive way with kids and can help deflect potential fighting, etc. Some kids need to be stopped in their tracks, regardless of race, background, etc.
