Check your narcissism. It’s not perfectly sized - as you pointed out, it’s IB feeders schools are overflowing. Coolidge, is under-enrolled. They have talked about expanding Wells before - when they were building it, in fact. |

Cackling with a little smug satisfaction here. My Adams Morgan neighborhood lost access to Deal about 10 years ago. I sat in on several community listening sessions filled mostly with Bancroft parents and soon-to-be Bancroft parents who were totally fine with sacrificing our kids, since they were so confident their kids were safe.
My own family no longer needs DCPS, but the school boundary change transformed Kalorama Triangle. We have a lot more doggy parents and fewer human parents. The housing stock is different in Mount Pleasant, so I don't know if the change will be as dramatic for you. But it couldn't happen to nicer folks. |
| Isn’t Kalorama Triangle in the Oyster boundary? |
Also, the Shepherd and Lafayette parents, a hard rain is going to fall. |
Lol okay. Where do you think they’re going to go? You think they’d make Deal go from 100% to 75% capacity and Wells 100% to 200% Capacity? Removing L&S would also make JR go to about 60% capacity after Hardy leaves. Nonetheless, I’d happily welcome a new middle that has Lafayette and Shepherd kids. |
The mayor would never allow Shepherd to be moved out of Deal. You seem like a lovely person (!) but terribly naive. |
+1. Shepherd is so small that the impact on Deal is a drop in the bucket. And the optics are just untenable politically. Above PP was right - if they did it to Kalorama (and Crestwood), there's no reason to think they won't do it to Bancroft and/or Lafayette. |
Geographically speaking, it would be super weird to see Lafayette moved while Shepherd remains. But I don’t think either will move. Hopefully, those on the committee are less emotional about it than people here. A “hard rain”? Lol |

Genuine question - not trying to be snarky. I don't understand why this forum is so insistent that Lafayette/Shepherd will be moved to Wells/Coolidge. Wells/Coolidge are more crowded than Deal/JR according to the DME Boundary Study Townhall slides. And you can't just reallocate current Coolidge boundaries to Roosevelt, because that school is already over capacity.

The capacity numbers on those maps make no sense, unless they expect 40 kids in an ES class or are counting schools they currently have leased out. |
Coolidge utilization rate in SY 2021-22: 73.4 percent J-R utilization rate in SY 2021-22: 112.1 percent Wells's utilization rate is only less than Deal's when you include the trailers. Why can't they add trailers to Wells, too? https://dme.dc.gov/sites/default/files/dc/sites/dme/publication/attachments/Appendix%20A%20-%20DCPS%20SY2021-22%20Enrollment%20Utilization%20Plans%20MFP%202022%20Supp_Final_0.xlsx |
dp: Those numbers are flawed too. It was the first year after pandemic reopening, and the numbers aren't normal. At our ES, a bunch of kids left during the pandemic and the school intentionally did not ramp back up to normal last year. This year, they did take a lot more OOB and are at full freight. Hardy, meanwhile, has a bunch more students now than that spreadsheet shows, so it's utilization is at least 70% and rising (and that's based on a suspect capacity number - dies it include Fillmore?!) |
I think any old data on JR utilization is irrelevant now with the opening of MacArthur |
Ha! The mayor is counting the days until Matilda is in Catholic school.

I wouldn’t be so sure. From what I hear in my friends group, Shepherd is an amazing little school. Also, that’s not the child’s name and we should stop referring to kids by name anyhow. I wouldn’t underscore the presence of the J&J and D9 families at Shepherd. |
