Yes, there are too many guns, but the bigger problem is the fact that juveniles in the area believe (correctly) that they will face no real consequences for breaking the law. Restorative justice!

Wow, the department of education is handling shootings at metro stops now. Who knew. You are an idiot!

It starts in the schools. Actually try talking to MCPS teachers sometime and ask how discipline is going this year. No consequences.

So, you are completely insane. Got it.

Notice how quickly you pivot to name-calling.

You’re the one lying about “no consequences” at schools. Why do you expect a civil debate when you misrepresent the issue from the start?

No, you're right. The kids are obviously fine and very much fear the consequences of acting out: LARGE GROUP OF TEENS REPORTED TO BE JUMPING ON TOP OF CARS: IHOP, 1200 Rockville Pike in Rockville-- approximately 25 juveniles jumping on cars, breaking the windows out, and using “water cannons” to damage the autos. (similar to an incident two years ago at Six Flags in Bowie)

When I was growing up 30 years ago I remember one time in Rockville that police had to use riot gear/control tactics to disperse all of us unruly teenagers who were camping out to score HFStival tickets. Some idiot broke a store window and the cops came out with bullhorns and everything. We were not arrested. We all turned out fine.

The MoCoPGNews account is a student at a college in South Carolina who listens to police/FRS scanner talk. Someone called the police to say this was happening. I can listen to scanners too, and so can you. From the scanner traffic, there's no evidence this actually did happen.

Yes, sound logic here. I'm sure it's more likely to be an elaborate conspiracy...

What conspiracy? There is no conspiracy involved in someone who calls the police and provides inaccurate, incomplete, or even just plain incorrect report. It happens all the time.

Not too mention Maryland just changed their gun permit law to one where it’s possible for practically anyone to get a permit for a gun now.

How much you wanna bet this killer yesterday had one of these new easy-to-get Maryland gun permits?

If he’s 18 he could not get a Maryland Wear and Carry Permit. The crime rate of licensed concealed pistol carriers is lower than that of active police officers.

To get a Maryland permit a person must be 21, pass a fingerprint and other record check, complete multiple days of training according to State Police criteria and fire a qualifying score on the required live fire test. Active drug users, people with repeat drunk driving offenses, people with protective orders against them, people who have been institutionalized, etc., need not apply.

Flood the country with criminals, impose no consequences, don’t enforce laws, disarm decent people, and shootings become more common . . . who woulda thunk it?

None of that is actually happening though. Those are just right wing talking points.

You know, you’re right! It’s all the guns self-locomoting to harm people. They mind control their innocent users.

You know where the illegal guns come from? People who have purchased them legally but don't handle them responsibly.

Actually, some unlawfully possessed firearms are home made, which is now more or less prohibited around here. Others are straw purchased, which is a federal and local crime. Others are stolen, which is a crime. They are carried without a license. Criminal. Loaded. Criminal. Not registered. Criminal (in DC).

I suppose what you mean by “don’t handle them responsibly” is that the wicked, negligent gun owners have the temerity to have their firearms stolen. Most crime vehicles are stolen. Are they not being “handled responsibly?”

To safely store your firearm, the NRA advises:

1. trigger locks
2. locked gun cases
3. strong boxes and security cases
4. locking steel gun cabinets
5. gun safes

Someone has to cover the scanners. The Gazettes have been shut down (thanks Jeff Bezos) and the WaPo doesn't bother covering most local crime.

Agreed. It's a public service. But just because Rockville police dispatch says someone called to say X, doesn't mean X is an accurate and complete description of what happened. What actually happened at the IHOP, if anything? MoCoPGNews doesn't know, and neither do you or I.

"The Moco Show" on Facebook and Insta does a good job of covering various topics, including crime and new business openings and events. Run by a former MCPS teacher, I've been following for years..
