The crime rate of licensed concealed pistol carriers is lower than that of active police officers. To get a Maryland permit a person must be 21, pass a fingerprint and other record check, complete multiple days of training according to State Police criteria and fire a qualifying score on the required live fire test. Active drug users, people with repeat drunk driving offenses, people with protective orders against them, people who have been institutionalized, etc., need not apply. [/quote]
