Yes, there are too many guns, but the bigger problem is the fact that juveniles in the area believe (correctly) that they will face no real consequences for breaking the law. Restorative justice!

Wow, the department of education is handling shootings at metro stops now. Who knew. You are an idiot!

It starts in the schools. Actually try talking to MCPS teachers sometime and ask how discipline is going this year. No consequences.

So, you are completely insane. Got it.

Notice how quickly you pivot to name-calling.

You’re the one lying about “no consequences” at schools. Why do you expect a civil debate when you misrepresent the issue from the start?

No, you're right. The kids are obviously fine and very much fear the consequences of acting out: LARGE GROUP OF TEENS REPORTED TO BE JUMPING ON TOP OF CARS: IHOP, 1200 Rockville Pike in Rockville-- approximately 25 juveniles jumping on cars, breaking the windows out, and using “water cannons” to damage the autos. (similar to an incident two years ago at Six Flags in Bowie)

The MoCoPGNews account is a student at a college in South Carolina who listens to police/FRS scanner talk. Someone called the police to say this was happening. I can listen to scanners too, and so can you. From the scanner traffic, there's no evidence this actually did happen.

Someone has to cover the scanners. The Gazettes have been shut down (thanks Jeff Bezos) and the WaPo doesn't bother covering most local crime.

"The Moco Show" on Facebook and Insta does a good job of covering various topics, including crime and new business openings and events. Run by a former MCPS teacher, I've been following for years..

It's a website too if you do not use Facebook

Yup. Very helpful. Are they always right? Nope. But it gives you a starting point to do your own research.

They caught the guys!

Gaithersburg, MD - A Gaithersburg teen has been arrested and charged with murder, in connection with the shooting death of an 18-year-old inside of the Wheaton Metro station on Thursday, May 18, 2023.

16-year-old Emmanuel Leonard Simmonds is accused of shooting and killing Tenneson Vaughn Leslie, Jr., of Greenbelt, on the Metro train platform following an altercation. Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes detectives learned that Simmonds and other juvenile males were on the escalator, along with Leslie, Jr., and a group of friends, when a physical altercation between the two groups occurred.

The altercation escalated and Simmonds allegedly shot Leslie, Jr. before boarding a train and leaving the scene.

Detectives were able to identify Simmonds as the shooter, and a warrant for his arrest was requested. Simmonds is charged with second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He is also charged with first-degree assault, reckless endangerment and possession of a loaded handgun. Simmonds has been charged as an adult in this murder.

A 14-year-old was also arrested in this case and is being charged with accessory after the fact, for his role in the death of Leslie, Jr.

Simmonds was arrested at home and has been transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit.

Any charges for the 14-year-old will be processed through the Maryland juvenile justice system.

Thanks for the update. Glad they caught them.

Good. Lock him up, throw away the key and make an example out of him.

Won't happen. Young and maybe first offender (as an adult). 10-15 years.

It's telling that neither the shooter or the victim were from the Wheaton area.

Sources say the shooter was from the area, but he moved. Apparently went to John F. Kennedy High School, which is in the Wheaton-Glenmont area, but was later expelled. His expulsion maybe cause his parents to move him to Gaithersburg, but he was, at one point, from the area.

Hmmmm... So, no jail time probably. Free by 18 years old. Is it how juvenile justice system works in MoCo?

Nobody is forcing you to use transit. You can still drive everywhere you want to go,
and complain about carjackings.

There are lots of progressive MoCo politicians who want to push for less car usage and more public transit usage.

The PP is correct. If they want to encourage public transit usage, they need to ensure riders safety.

I don't live in DC/MD... I live in NOVA. But you can bet 100% that people are forcing us to use transit. Tolls along I66, which is the only feasible way to get into the city for work, during rush hour are mostly $15-25. Then add another $7-10 on the way home. I'd say forcing folks to pay $23-35 each day simply to drive into their office is forcing them to use transit. If it's not at you yet, it's coming to a place near you soon.

Not too mention Maryland just changed their gun permit law to one where it’s possible for practically anyone to get a permit for a gun now.

How much you wanna bet this killer yesterday had one of these new easy-to-get Maryland gun permits?

Since he is 16 years old, seems doubtful.

How old was the shooter? Who was it?
18. That’s the only info out there

False. The victim was 18.
