Not really concerned. But we fell for the "100% attend college" and when I saw most attended the same college, I wondered if we'd been had.

Atlanta families are making the same calculation with respect to UGA that Northern Virginia families make about UVA - it's got great bang for the buck. Why go out of state when you have an excellent, affordable university in your state?

Fair enough. I just thought it was selective, and hearing that 85% number suggested it's not. Would you be happy if your private school bragged about 100% college attendance rate, then you learned 60% of those went to community college?

Sure, what's wrong with community college?

Nothing, unless a private school is using attendance there in marketing materials without disclosing that it in, in fact, community college and not somewhere you can get a bachelors degree.

They can transfer

Not necessarily. And it's definitely quasi-unethical.

From what community college can you not transfer to another college?

Can you ask for a list of acceptances rather than where they are attending? Or find the info on naviance or similar program if they have it?

it's unethical for a private school to use community college attendance as college acceptances. Literally no private school parent is aiming for community college. Happy?

Community college is college. Should only "good" college acceptances be reported?

It does not confer a four-year degree.

Stop yapping about community college. The OP did not even say the school had represented community college as part of the college acceptance figure.

Correct, that is how community college works.

Which means it's unethical to consider it as an acceptance. Why is this so difficult for you?

The US Department of Education and regional accrediting agencies consider community college legitimate.

Most students are in state and most go home on weekends, unless they are in greek life, like to party a lot, or it's a home football game. She did not have a great time and ended up leaving. Beautiful school and campus. Just wasn't the right fit. And shocking she has ended up in a "lesser" Virginia school and doing remarkably well haha

Huh. My daughter is a freshman there, and that hasn't been her experience at all. She's not a big partier, and isn't in Greek life. But she's never bored on the weekends. We have visited twice and don't get "suitcase school" vibes at all.

But you did say it was a few years ago that your daughter went, and I understand the school has changed a lot in even just a few years.

Same with mine. Comes home 3 times a year at breaks only. Never at a loss for things to do and lots of Georgia friends who are in town on the weekends.

What is the right fit for some, isn't the right fit for others and that's okay. When you are that far away from home you only want your child to love where they are. When they don't it is heartbreaking. It's not a knock on UGA, it's just to say it wasn't the right fit for that person's child. They said it was a beautiful campus and school. No need to get defensive as to why your child loves it. Appreciate that not everyone does. And maybe that has everything to do with the dorm and roommate and overall experience. My child also transferred out of UGA and had the exact same experience. It had everything to do with a poor roommate who had awful behavior and would lock my child out of their room overnight and RA did nothing. And they were lonely, a lot of their classes were too big to really meet friends. But this was their experience. They are much happier at a college that is closer to home and not so big. And that's okay. We still root for UGA football and they still consider themselves a Dawg. It just wasn't the right school.

Not defensive, just agreeing with the response that it was my experience too. The original person posted “most go home on weekends”, just offering a different experience we had. It was in no way a judgement on their decision to transfer. Agree fit is important. My current senior didn’t even apply to UGA, too big and didn’t like the feel when we visited.

You didn’t ask for specific college admissions information for recent graduating classes? You just decided to send your kids to this private, and signed a contract, based on that one statistic?

Well, then the blame is with you.

There are no contracts this far out of ATL.

I don't base my happiness off of what colleges my child's peers go to. Is *my* child attending a college that they like and is a good fit for them? Did their school prepare them to do well? That's what matters to me. Why would I care about what colleges their peers go to? I am not following your logic.

(I mean, obviously I care in the sense that I hope my kid's peers go to a college that they enjoy and that they are happy with. Whether that's UGA, a community college, or somewhere else...doesn't matter to me. Why would it?!)
