I haven't lived in any of those places, no, so didn't notice much difference in the short time I was there. I've mostly voiced in the south and Midwest, and have been one of the tallest women around at 5'11". Here, I've actually met women as tall.or taller than me. |
|
Voiced should be lived. Not sure why autocorrect made that change!
There are a lot more shorter men in the DC area. |
True |
Depends what subway line you are on. 5’8” woman, and I’m tall taking the F train from Queens into Manhattan, but shorter when I’m on the 4-5-6 (or just walking around the village). When I’m in the Netherlands or northern Germany, however, I feel so short! It’s been shocking to have in-person meetings with international collaborators that I’d only “met” on zoom - these guys are all well over 6 feet tall! |

The premise of the question is incorrect.
The white men in DC are pretty much average for the country, and the white women in DC are taller than average. https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2018/10/06/americas-tallest-shortest-states/ |
Because short men are disavantaged in careers. They can't get ahead in private companies, so they stick with the govt. |
Wow, actual numbers. OP, care to comment? |
| Do you have any data substantiating the premise here or is this just BS? |
|
I'm a 5'6" white man, and I am the same height no matter what city I visit.
|
Not the OP, but that is not the big aha moment you think it is. Crucial detail: it's self-reported. The reporter confirms that all men lie about their height, and nowhere in the world are there more liers than Washington, DC. |
| Agree men are shorter here. My boyfriends in Arizona were taller and i had no problem finding tall men to date. Here too, men are not very outdoorsy, which I find a real turn-off. |
Hey I resemble that but we’re tall nerds, for the record … Perhaps many of the nerds in DC come from top universities where diversity does not focus on height (yet - but surely someone will turn that into a thing) … also from all over the world at the World Bank/ IFC/ IMF etc and many brainy denizens from non European countries are of shorter stature. I like nice nerds. |
DC men are not at all outdoorsy and can’t fix things to save their life! Not very manly (plus too short). |
I generally despise throwaway social media speak, but I can't help thinking the only reasonable response to this post is LOL WUT?!! |
| My husband is 6’2” and our teenage son is 6’4” and still growing. Both are sort of nerdy. |
