Yet another example of why I refuse to fly

I understand how awful the screaming or crying is but damn if this man isn't expecting more from the child than himself.
Everyone's on edge. It's been a long day for everyone and he even admits to having headphones on and sleeping. It likely hot and the kids adult(s) stressed and it's just escalating.

Kid could have an ear infection and they didn't know. So many things and people are just wild.
I'd rather drive 10 hours than be on a plane. I don't understand how it is easier or more relaxing.

The reason why there should be child free flights. Or. Children in back area of planes. After all, under age two, they are flying for free but the rest of passengers are paying. They do not pay to hear your kid screaming. Stop flying with sick children, drive instead!

Sorry but you don’t get to tell parents what to do or forbid kids.

+1. Other countries (Germany, Switzerland as examples) have much healthier attitudes about this. Children are a part of society--we were all children once--we shouldn't segregate them from normal experiences like flying.

OK. So don't fly.

Won't keep us from flying. We always bring noise-canceling headphones.

That attitude is why I always tried to fly first with my kids when they were babies.

Seriously. You can’t drive to some of the most incredible destinations in this world so you are only punishing yourself. I fly 20+ times a yr and I’ve never experienced something like this.

OP here- I think trashed is a bit misused in that context. Lets give UA a round of applause for providing a choking hazard for a snack AND one of th messiest snacks on gods green earth besides unshelled peanuts/sunflower seeds.

And the behavior is not about the kids in either instance, its about our society's reaction to kids being kids and somehow holding them to a higher standard than adults.

Luckily, we don't allow guns or weapons on planes although I am sure that's in the not-too-distant future.

Someone pointed out in the other thread about this incident that the popcorn bag was full-sized (didn’t come from UA) and, in any case, it’s the Mom’s job, not the airlines, to monitor what snacks the kids get.

Well the child wasn’t causing the scene, the further delay, the police boarding the plane. The grown ass man was. Maybe we should ban men from flights!

JFC. If it’s a “choking hazard,” DON’T GIVE IT TO YOUR KIDS. You can say no. Yes, even if they saw it already and suuuuuper duuuuper want it. Welcome to parenting.

And since you’re not an incompetent parent (right?), you have other self-selected non choking hazard snacks in your purse/carryon under the seat in front of you, right? Oh, your kid doesn’t want those and wants popcorn instead? Too damn bad.

We don't have control over our kids crying. Deal with it.

Yes, you do. Address it. Deal with it.

Lol ok. I’ll deal with it as effectively as that grown man’s wife dealt with her man- baby’s tantrum.

The child had, apparently, been screaming for a long period of time. This caused the man to go off the deep end. The mother should have taken kid to bathroom until it stopped screaming.

If airlines were smart, they’d have babies and toddlers sit up front, last on and first off. Why isn’t that common sense?

Because up front is where the better seats are. Kids flyingfor free should sit in back .plane,

They’re not necessarily flying for free. I always purchased tickets for my kid even when he was under 2.

The man yelling and complaining about the good $$ he spent. LOL. He is flying Southwest! For the record, what mother WANTS her child to cry on a plane??
Anonymous
You should always bring noise canceling headphones on a flight. I have misophonia so do it for my own sanity. But that would at least help tune this out, and if you layer it with the earbuds they give you for IFE, it may drown the baby out entirely
