We do have CC members with kids in the schools. It doesn't change their positions on these issues. They believe in no policing in the schools. And Chapman is a bio teacher in Fairfax...he is still against SROs and the weapons screening. This is what they believe is right. Also - when are those weapons screeners going into place? I thought the timeline was early May. |
Michelle Reif’s kids are at GWMS |
There are only 2 CC members with children in the schools. Chapman may be a teacher for a different district, but he doesn't have kids in the ACPS schools. |
His child is too young for ACPS but I believe he intends to send him when he’s old enough |
Ignacio ran off a bunch of really good teachers while still an AP, so there’s that. She bounced around all levels of ACPS for years with no accomplishments to speak of—the literal definition of dead weight— but people love her husband… |
I wouldn't bet on that. He attended a local private school as a kid. Also, he's not a teacher--he has an admin type job. |
And didn't she say on the democrat wine mom podcast that the Hispanics would vote for her because of her last name? |
He attended ACPS until upper school when he got a scholarship to a local k-12. He grew up in the berg in old town. He has said he intends to send his son to ACPS |
Amy Jackson's kids attend ACPS. Justin Wilson's kids attend ACPS. I don't know any other people on city council who attend ACPS.
I'm a Republican and Michelle Reif is one of the only responsive school board members. I wish she would speak up because she has a lot of practical thoughts. She is one of the only school board members, along with Elnoubi, Baird, Greene, and sometimes Ignacio who stays after the meetings and talks to parents and students. Reif, Baird, Ignacio routinely meet with parent groups. I also find Reif and Greene to be open to dialogue with people from different viewpoints. As far as I am concerned, the school board term limit is Booz getting too involved in the VA legislature. As I understand it, the school board would need to bring this to the legislature. All along, my viewpoint has been that she is in this to establish herself like Laura Jane Cohen, who is on the FCPS school board and running for Delegate this June. I would not be surprised if Booz has this as her long-term plan. |
You may want to familiarize yourself with Reif's positions on education topics. As a Republican you should be horrified with her "practical thoughts". And before you defend the others...take a look at their tweets etc. about Republicans. Spoiler...they don't like you. |
Interesting. Last weekend, he (and Wilson) were apparently confused that there needs to be another high school. Chapman apparently cited having two football teams as a major concern and barrier to having two high schools. |
Are these guys really that dense and clueless? Having a second high school would give so many more kids a chance to participate in sports, clubs, performing arts, and other extracurriculars. Additional opportunities for involvement would likely alleviate at least some of the behavioral challenges of the one high school model. |
It seems clear to me that acps values having a deep bench over more chances for kids to participate. |
For YEARS all the supposedly left wing parents in my neighborhood ran around saying that you couldn't rename TC Willams because that name "really meant something" and the name of the football team was so important. Just a few years ago TC Williams' racist, bigoted past didn't matter to these people because...football. They said these things. And argued with me when I pointed out the TC Williams was a terrible racist. And now the safety and well being of the ACHS students doesn't matter because...football. Maybe Chapman will see the light in 10 years just like those people who all suddenly pushed for renaming the school when it became fashionable and so their little darlings had something to write about in their college essays. Wilson isn't particularly bright but he isn't that dumb. That's just his standard default when challenged. "Huh?" Chapman, who actually grew up here and owns a small business here, allows himself to carry Wilson's water. |
Greene has no kids, no skin in the game and voted to remove the SRO's. Now look at the crime at the high school. |
