Which ACPS board candidates have kids attending ACPS schools?

If you don't have kids I don't think you should be on the school board. I don't have kids and would never think I would be best suited for that position period.

What about an administrator who works in a surrounding district, who lives in alexandria but doesn't have kids? I keep trying to get my friend in this situation to run but she won't.

Does it matter if teachers and principals send their kids to ACPS, or even have their own kids? Since when is that a job qualification for public service? Plenty of people care about education and are invested in our schools whether they have kids in those same school systems or not.

Because it’s weird. Why is the school system good enough for other kids but not yours? I don’t trust a SB member who sends their kids to private to know what’s going on day-to-day in the public schools. I don’t trust them not to make deals re: land use & buildings that will benefit their child’s private school.

Again, is it weird to be a school principal but not have your own kids? There are plenty of reasons people that care about public education, even if they don’t currently have their own kids in the system.

Their employment contracts may prevent them from running for public office.

The entire Alexandria school board either has no kids or kids in private? Wow. That SB should be dissolved, and newly elected.
How did these people get in, who votes for them? Something really wrong with that set up.

100%. But not sure many people WANT that position anyway or they would run.

The last thing ACPS needs is another "administrator" on the school board.

Some don't have any kids the few that do want they pay check they get for being on the board for very minimal part-time work yet they don't think they school is good enough for THEIR children. This is how the school system ranks maybe that explains it all:

None of the School Board members are going anywhere until they want to. In fact, they are working on changing the elections so that voters have less input and representation.

It's been covered here before but a lot of parents in ACPS district have jobs which would make sticking their neck out on policy issues unwise.

It's a thankless job in a failing district.

She is extremely radical. One of her endorsements is from a New York group that made her sound even more radical than Hutchings. Much of the things we are seeing is because of the policies that she deeply believes in.

She could have been a strong voice for parents during the school closures but she wasn't. Had no problem with Hutchings pulling his kid out of ACPS, yet calling the parents who were forming Pods and keeping their kids in ACPS racists etc.
