Data show people are fleeing MoCo for Frederick

Wealthy families are leaving MoCo and moving elsewhere. Taxes too high, from income to estate. Since top 10% pay a huge percentage of the income taxes, MoCo will lose out.

Is everyone in Frederick WFH? I don't see the value of living there if you have to commute.

Better schools

Literally only 2 clusters are good. Urbana and Oakdale, and both are just as expensive as MoCo.

I’ve lived in Potomac/Bethesda area just about my whole life. My wife and I are outta here as soon as my last kid finishes HS (private, as the public schools have fallen off, in our opinion re curriculum).

Bang just is not worth the buck anymore. If im gonna get killed on taxes, at least have the services be half decent. County is no, longer what I loved bout living/growing up here

I also moved out of a hcol area out west because we got priced out. So, I moved to a "cheaper" area like MoCo for the more affordable home prices and schools.

As for taxes, Frederick county tax is very similar to MoCo tax.

I thought about moving to Frederick when I retire only because the housing is cheaper.

OMG, what's the difference. It's priced out due to leftist crap.

MoCo would have been better for our commutes, but PPs are right that we can’t afford the only areas with decent schools in MoCo, and event decent middling schools such as Quince Orchard are sliding very fast.

I just worry that people moving to MoCo will bring their ultra progressive policies. FredCo is currently moderate, just as we like it.

Have fun!

No worries. They will vote in the same progressives they fled from because they won't make the association.

Maybe, but 10-15 years is a pretty good run. That’s about how long I’ve been in MOCO, and when it comes time for my kids to transition to upper grade schools, that will probably be the end of my time here.

For anyone that doubts that people are leaving and will continue to leave, can you name a reason why they would not? For the taxpayers in the brackets that will allow them a lot of mobility, what do you think is getting better for them?

Schools? Crime? Thrive 2050? Housing goals that state that 75% of new housing should be lower to middle income?

All of the jobs coming to the area?

Of course some people will leave, other people will move in, and the average household income in the area will decline. If they can work out a way to fund the schools, I guess good for them and enjoy your bike lanes?

And off you will go to Florida, which you've hated due to their awful policies but you'll slink there anyway.

Taxes and crime increasing.

The new slogan for MoCo should be

Moco, where taxes go up and survival goes down.

there is not data to show those moving into Frederick are from Moco.

A lot of it could be Boomers downsizing for cheaper homes/retiring.

Personally, once my kid's graduate in a few years, we are selling our large home in Bethesda, buying a condo in Bethesda and moving full time to Annapolis to be on the bay.

This is in no part due to Moco, it's all because I want to live on the water.

right wing nuts will blame everything on politics.

Most people don't give a crap

Fortunately, there are places somewhere between MoCo's SS crazies and the FL right wing jerks.

Have a relative (from a totally different area) moving outside of Frederick. To me it is very dense cookie cutter communities plopped down in the middle of farmland. No appeal.

No sane person would move to Florida, and I’ve already decided where in Maryland to settle. Besides, there is an entire world to see out there, you should really get out of the house. Sheltered lives are wasted.
