Northeastern Regular Decision is out

But remember that decisions on naviance are self reported so unless kids who are waitlisted/rejected self report naviance won’t have this information. Same with acceptances.

It’s disturbing how many people fell for NE when the school quality is low but they gamed the rankings so well (read Selingo’s book).

It's ok to get rejected.
Move on.

Do they even admit any tippy top kids? They seems to prefer the next tier down..

Northeastern likes high stat kids.

Top 20 for national universities

First of all, this list is from 2016. Wasn't that around the time NE was engaging in questionable tactics to rank higher in USNWR? And where are you getting top 20? These are the top 20. NE is 25, so not sure why you need to twist the truth here. Amazing how these boosters try to spin stuff to make their school look like something it absolutely is not.

Lots of of sour grapes on this thread and others about Northeastern. I'm sorry if your high stats child was not accepted, but there's no need to s*** on other people's parade.

Nope, my kids didn’t apply there. I knew about their tactics.

No sour grapes. DS toured NE 4 years ago and didn't apply. For one thing, he wanted football and a regular college campus. He's at a top 20 and graduating this year...very very happy. I was with him on the tour and thought it was really staged and not genuine. The kids who spoke seemed very one dimensional and lacked depth. The whole thing was a big performance to get you to want to apply. We didn't fall for it.

First of all the last update was 2018, and that makes it much more genuine than the current scores because it was just before they started TO. Everyone had to submit test scores then.Current score is actually even better for Northeastern, 1430-1550

Second of all, you need to pay better attention.  It's top 20 among the 'national universities' Top 25 including all LACs.
What tactic? like cheating tactics like Berkeley, Emory, Columbia, etc.?
Duh

Lots of consequential research coming out of there. Lots

yes I’m sure the 100k+ kids who sent in apps all struggled with this point before applying

high brow DCUM strikes again!

Two words...no essay. Do they even charge an application fee?

Nope. Same ranked school Case Western doesn't have additional essays, but is not as popular. Then people say, well the location.  There's a school literally right next to NEU - WIT.There are many many schools in Boston without essays, but they are not as popular.
So it's a combination of many factors.  The biggest factor is the outcome rivaling higher ranked elite schools in my opinion.
Purpose of the essay is to pick the right students for the school, not to make the students' lives more difficult.  Northeastern is already doing one of the best jobs in that without dumb additional essay.  It is reflected in the retention rate. https://usnews.com/best-colleges/rankings/national-universities/freshmen-least-most-likely-return

In general you would pick a T20 T25 school if accepted of course, but if not Northeastern is just one of the best next options.  That's that.

BTW three of my kids applied and one is attending but none got application fee waiver offer.
Two of my kids got fee waiver offers from UChicago and WashU.

I will bite. My student had no interest in applying so no acceptance or rejection here.

It is not getting the strivers hellbent on Harvard.

I researched it ahead of my DD looking at schools, one of my DD’s best friends in in EA (probably won’t go b/c not enough merit) so my DD is probably in range.

The coop program is either a huge sell or a huge turnoff. All kids hear about is the need to get internships, this is a huge part of the program. It has some really interesting majors and I have heard good things about the tour from friends.

I am from the west coast and have only been out here 28 years so probably not as indoctrinated into the NEU is a commuter school mindset.

Boston is a great town.

Kids have different priorities and that is the problem with the rankings in the first place.

I am firmly in the camp of NEU is not elite, but I am also firmly in the camp of it sounds like a great school for a lot of students.

What kind of morons associate a T50 school with insane acceptance rate to a commuter school.

It used to be known as a commuter school before they started investing in applicant marketing. I take the redline to work in DC and see the billboards everyday. Any school that offers an applicant to a school in BOSTON as a spot in LONDON is shifty.

Every school started as a commuter school.
It's 21st century already
