mind boggling it’s only ranked #44 by USN given the level of selectivity and superlative quality of the admits. Is a gem that punches well above its weight, legitimately competing with the lower half of T25 (WashU, Cornell, Emory..) let the haters hate but tippy top kids are applying (and often rejected) in droves..
Lots of consequential research coming out of there. Lots
yes I’m sure the 100k+ kids who sent in apps all struggled with this point before applying high brow DCUM strikes again!
Two words...no essay. Do they even charge an application fee?
Nope. Same ranked school Case Western doesn't have additional essays, but is not as popular. Then people say, well the location. There's a school literally right next to NEU - WIT.There are many many schools in Boston without essays, but they are not as popular. So it's a combination of many factors. The biggest factor is the outcome rivaling higher ranked elite schools in my opinion. Purpose of the essay is to pick the right students for the school, not to make the students' lives more difficult. Northeastern is already doing one of the best jobs in that without dumb additional essay. It is reflected in the retention rate. https://usnews.com/best-colleges/rankings/national-universities/freshmen-least-most-likely-return In general you would pick a T20 T25 school if accepted of course, but if not Northeastern is just one of the best next options. That's that. BTW three of my kids applied and one is attending but none got application fee waiver offer. Two of my kids got fee waiver offers from UChicago and WashU.
