The Blair one has been around for ever. Did TJ just copy them?

The Blair tournament page archive goes back to 2015. It's not clear which one was first, as TJ's tournament has been around since at least 2015.
The Blair tournament is free and has more tests, and no limit on students.

TJ is always playing catch-up with Blair.

TJ does not think about Blair nor is Blair concerned about TJ. Both are in different states and both are great schools.

Based on reading this forum, I get the impression Blair has a rivalry with TJ, but TJ doesn't care about Blair.

Blair is a lot harder to get in to. Doesn’t really compare but I’m not sure that kids at either school really care.

TJ is a full magnet school. Blair is a magnet program that only takes 100 students per grade and it sounds like 50 of those come from Takoma magnet so there's basically 50 slots for the rest of the county.

Although most years quite a few Blair SMCS students come from the TPMS magnet, the number isn't fixed. Selection is from all schools and based on merit. Both TPMS magnet and Blair magnet students come from universal screening of 8,000 students

There are 11,000 students in each grade. 100 places per grade. TPMS universal selection. Blair magnet entry is unconnected to TPMS and by application.

I think 50 is an exaggeration. But 25? Sure.

This year at least 40 were accepted, but it’s a competitive application and the process is school blind. Kids from other schools have an equal chance of getting selected.

Why shouldn't many cone from TP. It us already a magnet. Same kids would have interest and ability. Also 9 HS feed to Poolesville SMAC magnet so not the whole county.
