How? There are hundreds of kids that don’t get admitted for ninth grade. Are you just suggesting that by calling and pestering you can get admitted for 10th? I suggest you post this on the MCPS board and see his they laugh you out of the place. It’s not even practical as there is no way to just pick up the rest of the cohort in 10th and catch up with where they are.

My neighbor who is a college professor had a colleague move to the area the summer before 11th grade. They were told it wasn't possible but he said they were able to make it happen with persistence. Their home school may also have been Blair.

Yes, this is possible. But it is not really with persistence or convincing the school. If you take Calc BC freshman or sophomore year, the world opens and you may take any magnet math class. If you take enough and do well, you may participate in the research project and I believe be considered to be "in the magnet".

What likely happened is the home school was Blair and they joined Blair in 11th and were able to take magnet electives as are any Blair students in 11th grade that meet the prerequisites and get accepted to that class. That’s not the same as being in the magnet.

Highly unlikely. MCPS admins can’t be ‘worn down’. Different now.

I disagree with this and also know a family that moved in during HS and was able to get their student a spot in Blair magnet starting as a sophomore. This was pre-covid. This kid was coming from out of state and was coming from a magnet program and was identified in that state as "gifted". They were moving in-bounds for Blair, so, Blair was their homeschool. There are always exceptions to rules. Principals have a lot of discretion about what goes on at their schools (even though they don't necessarily like to tell you this).

OP despite these unicorns that a few of us have heard of, I do agree that most likely the answer will be no.

TJ is a full magnet school. Blair is a magnet program that only takes 100 students per grade and it sounds like 50 of those come from Takoma magnet so there's basically 50 slots for the rest of the county.
